FS98 To CFS

Postby xFLAMESx » Tue May 18, 2004 8:46 am

Hey guys/gals,

This has probably been covered a squillion times but,
is there anything I need to do the .cfg or .air files to get FS98 planes working in CFS(1) properly.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanx. Carl

Hi Carl. Most FS98 aircraft should work fine in CFS1 without any modification. You will probably need to re-alias the Panel and/or Sound CFG files for them to display on the menu. My Aliasing article should explain it. http://www.simviation.com/lair/aliasing1.htm

FS98 aircraft will not have a DP file. They will use the default generic DP unless you create one for them.

Thanx for the advice.

Will the generic DP file do the job ok? or would I be better off creating my own (if I knew how to)?

The generic DP is based on the Spitfire Mk IX. You can replace it by copy/pasting a DP from any other aircraft into the main folder of the new one. The DP file must be renamed with exactly the same file prefix as the corresponding AIR file to work. Using a DP from a similar aircraft will make the armament more realistic but it's not likely to fit the visual model.

I find it much easier to modify an existing DP rather than create one from scratch. If you want to have a go at this yourself, DP files can be edited with DPED from the CFS Misc or Utilities sections. It's important to delete the corresponding CDP file each time you modify a DP.

Whoah ! !

This sounds pretty complicated,
I think I'll stick to the generic or as you say copy/paste another.

I used to fly almost entirely civil, so I edited the default *.dp to remove the guns. Can tell you how if you are interested!

Sounds like fun - but I'll enjoy blowing the gerry's to bits with my Sea Harrier for now.

Hey Dan,

About your offer - I think I will take you up on it.
I just downloaded a EC-130 AWACS plane and there are guns all over it.
It also fire rockets from the engines - i'd love to see one do that for real but i really need to get rid of them.

Much appreciated.

Email is c_huxted@hotmail.com if you want to send rough details straight to me.

Thanx. Carl
