new pilot..couple of questions.

Postby gonen60 » Thu Feb 26, 2004 4:38 pm

Hello,
My wife bought me CFS as a gift last week, and I am hooked.
I will soon be purchasing either CFS 2 or CFS 3..

questions..
should I get CFS 2 or 3 ? (i have heard some not so great things about  CFS 3...)

is there a online site I can play CFS 1 ?

can you import any of the FS airplanes, such as some of the passenger Liners ?

Thank You !!!

Hi Gonen & welcome to the madhouse. I can only give you my personal opinion. I prefer CFS2 to CFS3 any time. Others might feel differently. ::)

I believe there is a very active CFS1 online community. I never played online so maybe someone else can help. My old chum Fireman if he's around.

It's possible to import almost any aircraft you like from the FS98 sections to CFS1. The same goes for FS2000 & CFS2.*

Hope that answers 2 of your your questions anyway. ;)

*PS. This is not possible in CFS3 as the format is completely different from any other M$ sim. One of the reasons I dislike it.

Hi,

Welcome to the world of combat flight simulation - you might want to warn your wife that she won't be seeing as much of you as before... ;)

CFS1 is a great place to start, CFS2 has better visuals and more realistic flight models (and is more difficult, but proportionately more rewarding).  The sheer range of add-ons for either program is staggering and will add much to your enjoyment of both.

CFS3 I can't run on my computer, though God knows I've tried... I've heard both good and bad about CFS3 (with an emphasis on the latter...). I just wish I could try it out...

For online play, go to The Zone: http://zone.msn.com/en/root/cdrom.htm

Apparently you can also play CFS2 on a site called Hyperlobby , but I've never tried it.

If you're starting out, you might want to think about joining an online 'squad' - it's a great way to learn. 3NG is always looking for new members  for its CFS2 squad - check us out at:  http://www.3ngawards.homestead.com (shameless plug - sorry ;))

Look forward to seeing you online!

BTW - an excellent source of modern aircraft for CFS1 (other than simviation, of course... ;)) is http://www.navyair.com - some nice aircraft there, too

My wife is used to it..We are into our Motorcycles and  our Mustang also..So I am always keeping busy..But I do save enough time for Her also..LOL

She bought me the sim because I have been reading alot about ww2 fighter history..Just read "Samurai" by Japanese ACE  Saburo Saki..
and also " I  flew for the fuher" by german ACE Heinz Knoke...

thanks for all the info, and I will check out the sites mentioned..

If you have any other helpful info..pass it on.

thank you

Well, what Padser said about the Zone is correct, but I would prefer to fly Roger Wilco (Voice) anytime. I think we are flying with CFS1 as well as Fs2002 now, so if you are interested, PM terbert.

CFS1 and CFS2 comments

Postby ditto58 » Mon Apr 26, 2004 2:11 pm

I started with CFS1 and got addicted to it.  I got CFS2 and it has awesome scenery, a better damage model and seems generally more realistic.  You need a fast computer, though, with a decent video card and lots of RAM for it to play well, though.  Also, it takes up lots of HD space.  I haven't tried CFS3, although I have seen lots of bad things written about it.

I found playing CFS1 online to be not very interesting as it was full of people with hopped up repainted planes flying around and everyone kept their finger on the gun trigger at all times.  The single player game is much more realistic.

Warn your wife-- once you start flying you may not want to come down for awhile
