Flying Ad-on AC in campaigns

Postby Outlaw » Sun Sep 07, 2003 8:44 pm

How do I edit the campaign misson file to let me add my ad-on AC's or any other AC not listed for the misson. I can fly my Ad-on's in quick combat and signle missons.

Mark,

You will probably have to download a campaign editor from somewhere (I know not where).

If I find out I will tell you.

The only way I know is to change the aircraft in individual missions. This can be done by manually editing the MIS files in Notepad or using a mission editor like Keith Bedford's excellent CfsMe. http://www.simviation.com/cfs1utilitites2.htm

Due to a bug in CFS1, 3rd party aircraft don't work too well as AI aircraft. You might like to modify those you wish to use as shown in my tute. http://www.simviation.com/lair/AI%20drones.htm

As far as I know (which is probably not far), even in CFSME you cannot select 3rd party airplanes. You can only select the default AI aircraft. However, there are some missions downloadable here at SimV which use the B-17G bomber and the B-24 as AI planes, and these seem to work fine.

Changing the planes in individual missions may work, but from what I gather, even if you change the planes in each of the missions, you will not be able to use them in the campaign.

I am deducing this from general logic, and I may be completely wrong. If I am please forgive me.

_44x44. It is indeed possible to use any installed aircraft in missions. My Fox Four colleague Mike Eustace used Cfsme to create the missions in our CFS1 Korean series of campaigns, Bridges at Toko-ri, Valley Forge etc. http://www.simviation.com/cfs1missions4.htm
I converted all the 3rd party aircraft into AI Only drones as explained in my tute.

It's best if you try the campaigns in the order in which they were posted. Each one contains improvements. This was done in the early days & we learned as we progressed. The first 2 were done before we had Korea scenery. You might like to start with Valley Forge.

Hope you enjoy our work. Those campaigns are a little old now but still popular. ;)

Thanks for the kind words _44x44. Glad you like our stuff. ;)

PS. Campaigns are simply a series of specific missions played in a certain order. You can change the order or add/remove missions by editing the CMG files in Notepad.

Cheers Hagar, I'd figured that one out. I'll have to try that sometime.
