Freeware Taxi App?

Postby Hammer308 » Sat Apr 07, 2018 4:40 pm

I realize this might be a dumb question, but will ask anyway.
Is there a freeware app for FSX that will show airport maps while in the cockpit to make it possible to taxi in or out without progressive taxi.
As far as I know, progressive taxi only works when ATC is active, but if you don't want to fly with ATC, its difficult to know where to taxi in or out at non-familiar airports.
Its possible, I may be doing something wrong. If so, please let me know.
Thanx.

Hi

I'm a little surprised your not previously had any replies to this.

Not sure of it's name but there was a moving map utility that warned you which taxiway you where on and which you were approaching, can't remember it's name but otheriwse I'd say it was released within the last two years.

Other than that, look at VATSIM for the area you are interested in, so if you wanted maps/airport layouts for Munich in Germany for example, google vatsim Germany and then pick the area you want, you find airport diagrams and sids and stars.

Even lookup the civilian organisation for the area your interested in, you can normally find the latest maps that way but they may not match the scenery you have and may need to update to the latest magnetic deviations so the maps match your scenery.

regards

Steve

So far my number of landings either passenger or pilot equal my number of takeoffs.

FSMAP is one such program that will show the template of every runway you have in FSX or in FSX9
After you install FSMAP you select which version of FS you want to us and it will build a data base from your scenery files you have
You can also go to places where you can download custom IFR and VFR maps AVSIM has alot of these maps
One thing i will caution you is if you taxi to fast you will loose the airport template and swithch to the IFR or VFR map you have of the area you are in.
While flying it will show all aircraft in your vicinity and will alert you if one gets to close you can also control the range of the map by zooming in & out
You will also have to put the Gauge in every aircraft you want it in but the process is simple and easy
I have the gauge installed in just about my entire fleet of aircraft

If you can find it out there, filename FollowMe2_final.zip was a newer of payware FollowMe. The author abandoned further development and let it go free.
It is actually very good, the read me states the following:-

About a year ago I had to stop active development on FollowMe. At
the time I was working on FollowMe 2. At that time I promised to
release FollowMe 2 as it was at that time somewhere in the future.

I did not want to do that right away, because of the people who
purchased FollowMe in the months before that.

Now that more or less a year has passed... here it is. the 'as-is'
version of FollowMe 2. I actually did make one modification: removing
the registration stuff.

Some notes:

- The disclaimer and license agreement are still in the installer,
but they don't apply.
- What applies is this:

* No warranty, use at own risk, a lot has not been tested
* FollowMe 2 is freeware, copy and use it as much as you want
* You may not charge in anyway for FollowMe 2
* No support will be given. I'm sorry, but there is a reason why I had to
stop development and sales. As much as I want to give support, I
am not able to.

So what is new in FM2?

- Indicator lights are kind of working. This still needs tuning
- You can select a destination without having a route from ATC
- Ability to link other programs, like FSUIPC.
- Car should hold before crossing/entering runways

I searched for it briefly and came up empty. But maybe a harder look will find it. Good luck.

Bad news, just installed it and tried, it boots up fine in FSXSE however it fails to be able to read airports. It does work in FSXAccel though.

Here is what you will be missing in SE
