Thanks for the reply Flacke.

Anthin.

Sorry to hear that. Since you have experience with it and know how good it SHOULD look you may just get this solved. Good luck with this.

regarding a cloned drive..........it's my understanding that you can't upgrade fsx on a cloned drive.....in other words, if i've installed more aircraft etc on the original drive and wish to add them to the cloned drive, it can't be done....let me know if i'm wrong.....may have to re-clone the drive?

I will have to try that.

Anthin.
PS.I will have to learn how to do it.

There is a program called Macrium Reflect. They have most generously made available a free version for home use.
It will do your entire C:\ drive or any other drive you have and make an image for example on a small portable passport drive.
It will also make a Microsoft rescue CD or USB from which you can reboot.
now the good thing is that the free version, although limited, will allow you to put it all back onto a new drive in the same machine.
The limitation is should you buy a new machine, new bios etc then you will need the paid version.
But it works very well. Has helped me out a few times.
I have posted this before. I normally don't recommend software but Macrium Reflect is brilliant.
I know nothing about the company except this product which is brilliant.
So it would take you an hour put everything back as was.
I strongly recommend it as I read often about people complaining about
having to reinstall.

not necessary, waste of time.

Thank you for the reply. It looks like
I will have to buy a new computer.
This one has had it. It is just not my
Flight Sim but other things as well.

It is going to take some time to save
the money.

I admit that I am slightly confused by this. If using the right tools you take a complete image of the C drive, assuming a standard install of FSX I dont see why you cant push that back on a new drive considering the registry etc would go on also. I think there is a difference between reinstalling a complete C windows drive image and trying to copy FSX back onto a new drive where windows is already installed. The latter wont work but I dont see why the first wouldnt work using Reflect or something like that. That is afterall what these programs are designed for.
