hmmm...was wondering about backing up my fsx steam..in case of drive crash.......could i just copy either the steam folder or just the fsx folder onto an external hard drive...or is it more complicated than that? ......maybe i have to clone the drive?

Hello Yanc, all I did was make a file in my backup harddrive named FSX-SE BACKUP. Then I just cut and pasted my entire fsx se file into that backup folder.
Now I can log in to STEAM and then go to the backup folder and click on the EXE . Now I can run/fly FSX-SE from there as well as use it as a total backup of all settings, aircraft, scenery, weather programs, ATC programs etc etc etc.
Its very quick and easy. Its also nice to know that I have a 100% backup in case anything goes wrong [meaning, if I screw something up] in my main FSX-SE.

Hello again, you copy the FSX folder that has the entire game in it including all the files for FSX.
Remember, if you want to fly FSX-SE from your backup file you have to log in to STEAM first. I fly from it quite often and I test out new airplanes in it to make sure that any addons don't corrupt my pristine main FSX-SE. I can add or delete things at will with no worries because it all takes place on a different hard-drive.

look, folks, help yourself for free. I use Reflect which is free for home users.
It is easy to use and works perfectly. It will create a PE disk with the relevant calls to the Reflect restore programs
and will restore your complete hard disk including all your FSX.
Of course, you can also go into the backup archive and restore just your FSX stuff.
I don't normally endorse programs but Reflect has helped me out of a jam several times.
I consider it essential especially if you are on Win10 with its auto updates.
There are very few limitations to the free program. The only significant one is if you replace your PC
then you should buy it as the free version will not distribute your system to the new PC but
the free version WILL replace on a NEW hard-disk in the same machine.
I have had to use it twice 'in anger' and in each case FSX came back perfectly with everything else.
