Error 'An Unsupported Operation Was Attempted'

Postby dreamer_toons » Sat Oct 28, 2017 9:18 pm

Hi all, I need some help here.

I am running FSX:SE alongside with Active Sky Next (steam version), Rex Worldwide Airports HD and Rex Texture Direct with Soft Clouds. I have been flying with PMDG 777 for the past 1 years without problems.

Recently, I started to encounter the error 'An Unsupported Operation Was Attempted' whenever I tried to access the top menu to save my flight or configure settings etc. Even when I tried to save by hitting the ';' key, the same error surfaced and FSX:SE became unresponsive.

I have uninstalled and re-installed FSX:SE and all the add-on, even reformat my Windows 10, it was of no help at all.

I don't wish to give up flying and appreciate your advice.

This issue seems to be due to the WIN10 fall upgrade. I have had similar issues, once I start flying the simulator gives me a window "Error creating child window" and shuts down. Read the attached links, we're not the only ones.

Thanks for the sharing.

Most probably Windows 10 updated in the background recently and the error started to surfaced. in addition, FSX:SE seems to run out memory easily these days especially during taxing. It starts by lagging and eventually, unresponsive to any inputs. I have never encounter out of memory issues despite i have the same add-on. Both the error message and the memory issues happen randomly through.

Hope there is a patch coming up.

I had a completely different problem after the creator update the boxed version of FSX was deactivated and now I can not install Acceleration as I never get the screen to activate it.
The problem is WINDOWS 10 is slightly different with each system based on what you have on your system at the time of update. But I have never had a problem with the Steam version I am using it with ACTIVE SKY 16 and ACTIVE SKY CLOUD ART. I use the global theme mostly which means the weather changes based on where you are at so you can start out with clear skies and run into a huge storm and than fly out of it back into clear skies.
I still have issues with the boxed version of FSX from time to time I manually installed SP1 and SP2 but I still have issues. The last time I flew it I flew a flight form KTPA to KJFK and had no issues at all until I landed than FSX proceeded to Crash and restart.
All of these problems are related to the creator update. I am tempted to go back before the update and see if I can get rid of the problems but not sure if it is worth the effort and than I would have to reinstall a few programs as I did not have them installed before the update.
Like you and others I hope Microsoft come up with a fix soon.
:(

Today I went into Steam and uninstalled FSX-SE, rebooted my computer , back into Steam and was then able to re-install FSX-SE. Works OK now.
