That is strange I have both the boxed version and the Steam version and I have not noticed any differences in ground texture at all. you might want to check your sliders out. If you have the sliders on the boxed version set diffidently
from those in the Steam version that will create a difference. If any thing I have been having problems with the boxed version where I lose my textures all together. Sometimes when I go into spot view I can only see the wing lights of the aircraft and no airplane at all. And if I am on the ground parked at a gate the entire building disappears and I loose my menus at the top. I have yet to figure out what is causing this as it does not do it all the time.
I wondering if it has something to do with the fact that I had to install SP1 and SP2 as I could not get Acceleration to activate I never get that screen. I am thinking about uninstalling the service packs and reinstalling them to see if that might help.

The thing is, FSX Steam might require a little bit different tweaking than FSX (but I'm not even sure...).
For those who have problems installing or uninstalling or activating FSX, just stop wasting your time.
If you want to keep using an obsolete sim, just switch to FSX Steam.
If you want something more modern, switch to P3Dv4 (but be Prepar3d to say bye-bye to some of your addons, especially the FS9 stuff).
Today there is simply no reasons at all to keep wasting your energy with FSX boxed.
Return to Flight Simulator X (FSX) and Steam
