My first exposure to a computer flight simulator was in the '80s. Because of that I didn't touch a flight sim until I bought FSX in 2012.


Even then I thought that it was horrible. Not as bad as in 1984-1987, but not very good.

How the heck do you "fly" with a mouse and keyboard

In 1985 I bought a Sinclair QL (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinclair_QL).

It had a flight simulator:

I've been using all these Computer games since the 1970's....

Starting with the various '70's game consoles (Atari 2600, etc), Apple 2E Computer; then into the 80's with the Sinclair ZX80, ZX81, ZX 82 Spectrum, Commodore C64, Amstrad CPC 464, onto the 90's with the Amiga 500 and 1200, and the mid 90's with the Windows PC's and lots of various Flight Sims (FU II, Pro Pilot, Fly! etc) culminating in Microsoft's FS '98, 2000, 2002, 2004, and now FSX.

...way to go yet, before P3D graces my Monitor screen!

I still have all those old Computers in full working order, and crates of their hardware and games software.
A spare bedroom full of the stuff!

I've been welded to this bloody computer, every day since 1975!

No wonder I'm getting thin and weak....lack of exercise!

I came into the scene right after FSX was released. I would have given it up until I stumbled across Simviation and saw Nick N's tune up guides. I learned on a keyboard and mouse, but the Sim really opened up for me when I finally got a joystick.
I'm glad you folks enjoyed the post and it seems some of you are actually part of the history.

HOLA Steve M, that was my case too: I got a DVD with A Century of Flight, but that particular PC had 512 MB Ram: it was so basic I forgot about it. After My son gave me his HP Lap with 2 GB Ram & Nvidia graphic card, I gave FS 2004 a try again. One day (after my other son gave me a Joystick, imposible to get in Cuernabalas because all female atendants in Software Depot thought it was a SEX TOY ) I stumbled into this forum & read Nick's post for Windows XP & Vista (the OS that was in that Lap) and all sliders went right, I discovered Golden Wings (MUCHAS Gracias Lynn & Bill Lyons ¿where are thee?), Gary of Ford Tri-Motor Project (looking West). But the best for me is FS 2004 Golden Wings version with addons from that era.
