Never been a great fan of poetry, but High Flight and Thomas Gray's Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard always touch me in a way that's hard to describe. Wonderful words indeed, and used by others.

The field where he died, and LAC Griffin too, is overflown everyday by young pilots of the RAF, being just outside the circuit at RAF Cranwell. I believe, as the illustration in the link alludes to, the Magee was actually able to exit his aircraft, as he was found quite some way from his aircraft. Griffin of course had no chance to escape.

Scopwick cemetery is only a few miles from us so we visit it every now an then. Magee rests there, alongside many other heroic aircrew from both sides of the war, and several from before and after WWII
