Very Strange Indeed

Postby Shadowcaster » Sun Mar 27, 2016 4:01 am

Playing with FSX last night and thinking how well it was working, that was until this morning. Went to fire up the sim and it did not run, :o tried a few things and still no joy. I then had a peek into the main FSX folder and every folder up to the ORBX folder was gone, vanished gone AWOL.  All the others are there SimObjects ect, I searched all over the other HDD's and there is no trace of them anywhere. :o The rest of the computer is working fine is working fine. I know I'm in for a rebuild but why did it delete folders in alphabetical order up to ORBX.

Windows 10 and FSX SE

Any ideas chaps

Cheers
Rich

I have had problems with Windows 10, I hope that's not your problem also.

Never do anything major unless it happens regularly. May just have been a glitch.

I’ve had programs deleted on Win 10 as well. Also, a programme that was working perfectly well suddenly becomes “incompatible with the operating system” and I’m advised to contact the software manufacturer. I suspect that the Microsoft Gestapo are “policing” our computers and sabotaging anything they don’t like the look of. They certainly don't seem to like third party solitaire games, as they keep attacking them whichever drive I put them on.

Thanks for the reply's guys something very weird is going on  Now in the process of re-installation, if it happens again I may have to ditch Windows 10 which is a shame because I really like it 8-).

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but your problem might not have anything to do with Windows 10 Or for that matter any version of Windows.
A few months ago I installed a game and after it installed I went to go run it and I got a message that stated that it could not find the program where I said it was at.
I went HUH  And went to look for it I was shocked when I could not find a trace of it anywhere at all. I thought about calling the ghost busters for sure. But i figured something odd must have happened that prevented the program from installing though I had no ides of what that might be.
So I reinstalled it and checked right after the install finished to make sure it was there and it was there so I closed down that window and proceeded to start the program again I got the same message stating it could not find it. I thought okay now what in gods green earth is going on here. Where is my game  :?: I than discovered the problem was with my hard drive it was failing. Sector zero was going bad and that is where all the information about all of the folders is kept so when sector zero goes bad you no longer have a use full hard drive. The programs are still there but you now have no way of finding them.
So your problem could very well be the same your hard drive is failing.
I do not care what anyone says Windows 10 will not go out and randomly remove programs form your hard drive. Now it is likely that a older program might stop working after a update but
there is no way that I know of that any Windows will remove anything off of a hard drive unless something or someone tells it to.
In your case I would certainly look into this.
I have had two hard drives fail on me since installing Windows 10 And I can promise you that Windows 10 was not the cause as to why they failed.
And I doubt that it is causing your problem as well. But it is your system so if you want to go back to what ever version you had by all means do so but do not be surprised when your problem pops up again.

Hi Gary

I think your right, although I have checked the drive for errors, I just don't trust it. So I've put FSX on a newer drive so hopefully it should be OK.
