Do you have an office idiot?

That frightening moment when someone tells you that the stapler isn't working and you tell them that they've put the staples in backwards.... then you watch them take 'em out, spin 'em round and put 'em back in...

We had an idiot savant, for sure. Two weeks after he received a new computer, he called me to complain it was running too slow. I asked him what was the new icon in his task bar. He had modeled utility infrastructure (gas pipes) for a small city, had it running 24x7 in the background. Never occurred to him that it might slow down his pc. We should have given him a Cray.

He was known to arrive at work with one sock or no socks, and special care had to be taken after painting was done in the office, because he was sure to wander into it.

He was banned from driving company vehicles after he drove a truck-trailer some 40 miles with a backhoe tractor in tow -- with the tractor engine running. When asked why he would do such a dangerous thing, he replied, "To make it faster to unload from the trailer, so we wouldn't have to start it up again."

And yet, despite such a lack of common sense, he could write the advanced algorithms that modeled pipe networks and pressure regulators for an entire city, on his Windows NT 80486 pc, an engineering genius.

The human mind is strange and wonderful, isn't it?

Didn't any one from HR give the employee the 'Kraft Caramel' Test?

Hand the prospective Scrub (employee) a single Kraft Caramel. Observe the Scrub closely, and watch to see if he (or she) removes the inner Wrapper from the Kraft Caramel, before popping it into their pie hole.

Inner Wrapper removed -- the pilot light is lit, and the cogs are turning.
Inner Wrapper not removed -- return the Scrub to the Gene Pool, and Select again!
