Problem with Amphibian

Postby Flying Trucker » Tue Jan 12, 2016 3:21 pm

Afternoon all... ;)

Have tried to fix this on my own and no luck...any help would be appreciated...

I downloaded from our Simviation Download Site:
Beechcraft_D18SVC_FSX....there are Amphibian and Wheel Versions of the Expeditor/Beech 18 in this Download

-Wheel Versions look OK
-Amphibian upon landing on Water I get Black Smoke...looks like small particles of rock and Boxes behind the simulated aircraft

Beech D_18 Samph (stand alone download) which is an Amphibian and there are two in the download is also included in the above Download Package...
I even deleted this from the FSX Aircraft Library in hopes this would rectify the problem...it did not...

The computer was slow in loading and Ending a Flight when the Beechcraft_D18SVC_FSX download was installed...
I deleted it but kept the file...

Reinstalled Beech D_18 Samph and everything works great again and the FSX program does not take as long to load or end a flight.

FSX Acceleration and Windows 10

Would really like to have the other package because of the Amphibian and Wheeled Versions... :pray:
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Sounds like you're missing the textures for the water effects. That's what causes the "black squares" you're seeing. If there was a separate effects folder included with the DL, make sure all contents were added to the FSX effects folder. Some times a DL with an effects folder will include a "texture" folder along with the effects themselves. That texture folder also has to be installed in the FSX effects folder.

Hi BOikat...well tried that and still got those black squares when landing on the water.

Other than that all works fine... ;)

What about other sea planes? Does the water spray effects work correctly for them?

Hi BOikat...yes it does and I have tried changing the other two Beech 18s when the problem aircraft is on the water and the Black Squares go away...

Have checked the Effects and Texture in the FSX Folders and everything is there.

I've just checked this out & the problem is with one of the 3rd party effects. If you open Aircraft.cfg of the amphibian in Notepad you will notice two different [EFFECTS] sections.

This is the first one:

[EFFECTS]
wake=fx_wake
water=fx_nicks_tchwater
dirt=fx_nicks_tchdrt
concrete=fx_sparks
touchdown=fx_tchdwn_s, 1

scroll down a bit & you will see this one:

[EFFECTS]
wake = fx_wake
water = fx_spray
dirt = fx_tchdrt
concrete = fx_sparks
touchdown= fx_tchdwn_s, 1
startup= fx_msd18s
windshield_rain_effect_available = 1

Deleting the complete first [EFFECTS] section above will give you the FSX default wake effects. This is the result:

Please try it & tell me if that fixed it.

Note: Back up Aircraft.cfg before editing it.

Good Morning Doug... ;)

It worked...you are a Genius Sir...much appreciated... :clap:

We are going out right now to do some grocery shopping and I shall talk to the Old Girl about coming across the Pond this summer and you can bet I shall buy you a beer... :lol:

There is talk about two weeks in Boston and two weeks in Salem Massachusetts this summer but that is not carved in stone as of yet.

Still have not made it back to Vancouver, British Columbia and that was scheduled last year...not sure who said we had a lot of time to spend when we retire...I need to go back to work to get time off... :lol:

Again Thanks Doug... ;)

Goodly Morning Again... ;)

http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1 ... &filename=

Two minor problems have popped up...

Wheeled Version of the same simulated aircraft:
-the Tail Wheel Steering...the tail wheel will hardly move from left to right in the Tail Wheel Unlock Position

-I copied/pasted the Royal Canadian Air Force Livery of the Wheeled Version of this simulated aircraft into the Separate Amphibious Folder...
-added the Thumbnail
-added to the Aircraft CFG File making sure I added the new number in sequence

[fltsim.6]

title=Beech D18S AmphRCAF VC
sim=D18S
model=Amphibian
panel=vc
sound=
texture=RCAF
kb_checklists=Beech18_check
kb_reference=Beech18_ref
atc_id=N700MS
atc_id_color = 0xffffffff
atc_parking_types = RAMP
atc_parking_code = 1
ui_manufacturer=Beechcraft MSA
ui_type="D18S VC"
ui_variation="Royal Canadian Air Force Amphibian"
ui_thumbnailfile=AmphRCAFVC.jpg
description="B18 VC"
atc_heavy=0
atc_airline=Air Force
atc_flight_number=530
description=

It worked for other simulated aircraft but not for this one, unless I have missed something...
The Amphibians do not have "VC" in their Thumbnails or their Aircraft CFG File and I have Deleted and Added that to see if that was the difference.

Sometimes the new added Livery will show up but the picture "Thumbnail" will show the simulated aircraft picture I took the Livery from but with the word "Amphibian" added in the Thumbnail, if I was adding the new Livery to an Amphibian File from a Wheeled/Ski Simulated Model.

Not sure if Wheeled Skis could be added to this particular model or not, just a thought. I believe this is one of the finest simulated aircraft for FSX, Freeware and available right here off our Simviation Download Site.

It would be Perfect if these Companies that produce Payware Simulated Aircraft would design that particular simulated aircraft they are replicating in all it's modifications such as...
-wheels
-floats
-skis
-wheel/skis
-amphibian

I think it would be worth the extra cost of having the simulated replica all in one packaged deal... ;)

This aircraft comes with a castoring tail-wheel. See this comment in the [contact_points] section of Aircraft.cfg:

//point.0 = 1, -19.904, 0.000, -0.637, 2200, 0, 0.33, 45, 0.51, 2.0, 0.50, 3, 5, 0, 139, 175.2
//Replace contact_point.0 below with the one above if you want a steerable tailwheel. You may comment out the one below with //, and activate the one above by removing the //

Without checking this out the parts you missed are as follows:
The sim= entry points to the AIR file in use. In this case it should be sim=D18Sam
The model= entry points to the Model folder in use. In this case it should be model=ampass for the passenger version or model=amph for the cargo version.

Not sure what you mean by this one.

I've not noticed this idea before which might explain it. The ui_thumbnailfile=AmphRCAFVC.jpg line seems to point to a thumbnail image with the same file name (AmphRCAFVC.jpg) in the main folder of the aircraft. The conventional method is to add a file named thumbnail.jpg to the corresponding Texture folder.

Tell me if my suggestions work.

Wow...you did it again Doug...thank you... :clap: ;)

Now I have not got to the Thumbnail yet but will do that when I get back from the Dentist.

There are two new entries in the FSX Aircraft Section now.
-Passenger version...seats show OK
-Cargo version...back/rear is all black

Floats are Black also but they do look kind of neat with the amount of Black on the rest of the aircraft... ;)
Not sure if they can be changed to the Aluminum Livery :?:

Again thanks for the help Doug...Off to the Dentist for 9am... ;)

You're welcome. Us Dougs must stick together. :)

Now I have not got to the Thumbnail yet but will do that when I get back from the Dentist.

If the new RCAF texture folder contains a file named thumbnail.jpg delete or comment out this line in your new Aircraft.cfg entries
ui_thumbnailfile=AmphRCAFVC.jpg

There are two new entries in the FSX Aircraft Section now.
-Passenger version...seats show OK
-Cargo version...back/rear is all black

Make sure you point the model= line of the new cargo version entry to the correct Model folder.
model=amph

Floats are Black also but they do look kind of neat with the amount of Black on the rest of the aircraft... ;)
Not sure if they can be changed to the Aluminum Livery :?:

Paste a copy of all the files from the folder named texture in your amphibian main folder into your new Texture.RCAF folder.
DO NOT overwrite existing files when prompted. (This might also fix the black interior of the cargo version.)

Thanks again for helping me out Doug...much appreciated... ;)

All seem to work fine, floats and cargo look good.

This is a fine example of a Freeware Simulated Aircraft found right here at the Simviation Download Site.

Rudder Pedals and Control Yoke along with Dual Engine Controls for Radial Engines would be an asset in controlling this simulated aircraft on the ground...tailwheel steering is very sensitive and does require engine control and brakes to keep it working properly.

The amphibian model does not have great water noise when landing/taking off or water taxiing but wake effect is nice.

Again Doug thanks for the help... :clap: ;)
