Will Windows 10 Recognize ???

Postby Jetranger » Thu Dec 03, 2015 10:50 pm

I was just wondering "if" windows 10 would Recognize, any of the Disks that I've saved a lot of my Aircraft & Scenery add ons - on ???

I also have an External Hard Drive that has everything backed up on it too !

Wondering if Windows 10 will Read whatever Windows 7 wrote ???

anybody actually know - for a Fact ????

"not assumptions or Guesses" !!

has anybody found this out yet , since it appears a lot of Windows 10 users have run into Glitches.

I'm "NOT" a Basic Generic FSX user

Aircraft installed : 4,992

Add On Scenery installed : 750

80% of all those files are custom Tweaked, painted

90% of my Aircraft CFG Files are also customized

Also, what about Paint Programs installed on Windows 10 ??

Abacus Paint - Paint Shop Pro - Photo Shop - DXTBMP - Paint.Net - anybody experience any issues with those being recognized ???

Please, NO Assumptions or guesses , actual Experience from seasoned hardcore Flight Simmers , Thank You !

I am running Win 10 (clean install, not upgrade) and it has no trouble reading my external USB hard drives, all written by Win XP! The drives are NTFS format; I don't know how it would get on with FAT32 format.

One thing I would recommend to all Win 10 users is to dump the crapware before you even start to use it. There are programs available now to help you do it - check Major Geeks; DWS seems to be a good one to start with.

Deactivate cortana.

Deactivate auto upgrades.

Don't even think about using Microsoft Edge.

Dump practically every app that comes as standard with Win 10.

Does that sound harsh? You don't have to take my word for it; there are plenty of articles about Win 10 on the net now!

Ummm interesting

I think i'll wait for Windows - 25 to come out, or somebody comes up with a better operating system that doesn't have all that redundt un-necessary crap built into it , that we end up dumping , getting rid of, that's a "supposed" upgrade :? :shifty:

Yup its an upgrade, alright, ya' just have to peel the doors, hood off it and swap all the wheels tires and change all the brakes to make it work properly ????

sounds like a Bogus upgrade from everything I've been reading on all kinds of forums.

I know for a fact that Windows 10 will not support some of the older disks. Because I had a CD copy of Captain Sim Legendary B727 That I bought about 10 years ago I think.
I lost my external USB 3.2 Hard drive and Windows 10 would not let me install it. When I contacted the place where I got it from the person there told me that all of there older software would not work in Windows 10 because of what Microsoft had done. I had to purchase the same aircraft using instant download
However I do not know if the problem is still there after the November update that was released. Microsoft finally fixed some of the problems with Windows 10 as this was a major update
My screen savers are finally working the way they were supposed to.
The only way to find out is trail and error or contact the place you bought it from to see if there is a problem.

You got it! If you don't actually need Win 10 for some specific purpose then my best advice is to leave it alone. Having said that, I have yet to find a software utility program that doesn't run on it, including Paint.net, Photoshop,IrfanView, Paintshop Pro, Digital Photo Professional, Silkypix, Virtual Dub et al. The only problems I've had are with games, and some of those are probably down to changing from 32bit to 64bit.

If you know of any utility programs that have been causing trouble, I would be quite happy to test them on my machine - provided it doesn't cost me a fortune of course!

If you ever do get tempted to try Win 10, then by all accounts a fresh install is the way to go. Upgrading seems to cause all sorts of problems.
