Just wondering...

Postby Flying Trucker » Tue Nov 10, 2015 3:49 pm

Goodly afternoon all... <<u

Just restarted a saved simulated flight.

When I programmed the simulated flight I used REX Essential Plus Overdrive and Flight Simulator Water Configurator.

Now the question is do I need to restart Flight Simulator Water Configurator and REX Essential Plus Overdrive every time I start the saved simulated flight :?:

I am sure Windows 7 saved the settings for Flight Simulator Water Configurator and the REX Theme.

Now I am using Windows 10 and not sure if Windows 10 saves those settings or not.

I suspect that Flight Simulator Water Configurator does the same as Rex.

Rex will install the textures that you select. Whenever you start your sim again, it'll use what Rex put there before.

If you use the Rex weather engine, THAT will change according to the location/flight plan. But the clouds, sky, sun textures, runway textures, etc. will stay the same.

I agree with OldAirmail.
REX and FSWC will modify/replace some textures or shaders, but when it's done, it's done, and you don't need to keep the programs active to see the changes.
I mean, once you made your choices in REX and FSWC, and you have applied/saved these changes, then you can close these programs (REX and FSWC). FSX will use the modified files on the next startup.

However, the files/textures/shaders we are talking about are part of the sim, they are not replicated in your saved flight. Your saved flight is just a situation, saying that you were there, at that time, in that plane, in these conditions.
To make it clear: let's say your FSX has only default textures inside, default water effect etc... and you save a flight.
Then, later on, you trigger REX and FSWC and you choose some different skies, clouds, and water, and then you "apply" the changes, then you close everthing.
And finally, you launch FSX, and you load your saved flight.
-> you will reach the cockpit in your saved situation, but you will see the new clouds, sky and water textures... because they replaced the default ones and the sim has to use them no matter what.

The only thing that will be saved in your flight, regarding the environment, will be the weather. The amount and position of the clouds, the temperatures, the rain etc... all of this is precisely saved. So if you saved your flight with a very nice set of cumulus next to your base, you will see that set again when you load your flight... however, that big bunch of cumulus will now use the new textures installed by REX, so they will hopefully look better than before :)

Hey...Stephane...long time no hear from... :)

Thanks for the reply also...much appreciated... ;)

I seem to be unable to continue with a set of Full Screen Screenshots without the computer changing the size of the Screenshot to about 1/4 the size of the Full Screen.

The FSX Resolution is set to the recommended setting and have tried several other resolutions but still get the same 1/4 size picture.
Every once in awhile I will get a Full Screen Shot or several to work but then it goes back to the 1/4 size picture when I look in my FSX Picture File.

Most annoying as I do not change anything.

Have tried Screenshots in Full Screen Mode...works sometimes and in Windows Mode...works sometimes.

I would like to know what Resolution anyone else might be using for FSX and Windows 10.

So Stephane...you still jumping out of perfectly good aeroplanes :?:

Hehe, yes i still jump out of them, but it's been a few months since I last did it. Motivation thing, you know...
Concerning your screenshot problem, I don't really know...
What is your way of doing screenshots ? Do you use external tools such as FRAPS or anything like that, or do you do it manually with the V key ?

Trucker, I had the same problem, but cured it (sorta) by viewing in windowed mode and expanding the window to full screen size. I'm using Windows 10.

Hi Stephane

I do use FRAPS sometimes but not all the time.

The recommended resolution is....1920 X 1080 X 32 (newer monitor...HD...Primary Monitor)

I had a bit of luck with....1440 X 900 X 32

Secondary Monitor is much older and not HD...used to view GPS...Radio/Coms...REX Weather Screen when it works as it will disappear as soon as something like the GPS is put beside it...

I use the "V" Key to do all Screenshots...
I will Pause the Simulated Flight...wait a few seconds...Unpause and take the screenshot...

I use BDSizer to resize...

TWO monitors!

That's where the "other" area is coming from, and why your pictures look relatively small.

Maybe. :D

Kinda like this?

Ah ok, I see now.
So basically, here is what happens. Please tell me if I understood correctly:
- you use two monitors, one for the sim display, and the other one for the instruments
- the resolution of the monitor for the sim is 1920x1080
- when you press V, you get a very big screenshot, but the sim occupies just a part of it, just like the screenshot posted by OldAirmail above.

Then, I suppose the horizontal size (width) of your original screenshot is something like 1920 + the width of the other screen, right ?
In that case, the problem is not difficult to solve, because your screenshot (taken with V key) is not "compressed". You should simply "crop" the picture before you resize it.
By cropping, I mean selecting the zone of the screenshot which shows the sim, then use the "crop" button which is available from any picture editor program. Then the "useless" parts of the screenshot will be gone :)
Then you can proceed with "resize" and convertion to JPEG format etc.... as usual.

PS: keep the resolution in FSX to 1920x1080. It is important to set it to the native resolution of your screen. Else, your picture will be blurry/strange.
PS2: to make it more clear, "cropping" simply means 'cut out the useless parts'. You draw a selection square, and everything out of that square is cut out of the picture. It's quite easy and fast :)

Thanks Stephane...will have a go at that tonight...it is raining here but the Old Girl wants me to go to Sears for some Christmas Specials which are on today and tomorrow only...

Again thanks for explaining all that to me...now do you think you could mention to the Old Girl for me that all she needs to give for Christmas presents is a Picture of Me :?:

It wouldn't work anyway, Doug.

Women just have to surprise you with something bigger and better than EXACTLY the thing that you need, or can use.
