Bluescreen error

Postby jive1 » Thu Oct 15, 2015 7:47 am

Hey!
I have from time to time the famous bluescreen error. It was a long time ago that I used to have same, but in those days I changed something in my FS9, but I don't remember what exactly.
I have Win7 and fly with FS9.1, I have lots of aircraft in my system, over a 100 different types, and also many sceneries, but all sceneries, including both original MS Areas, and the ones that I installed myself, are bundled in only 128 Scenery Areas.
Whan Bluescreen error happens, I guess it has to do something with memory. Yet, I have 8 GB Ram and my computer is a very strong one with the latest NVIDIA drivers, as well as all other drivers, that are checked and upgraded every week, if necessary.
FS9.1 is a 32 bit program and I think thet it van only use 2Gb of Ram. My system is 64 bit, and in order to be able to use 4Gb Ram, I have read that I can run a program http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php which would allow my FS9.1 to use 4Gb of Eam instead of 2Gb Ram.
My question now is: Is this correct, or is there a better system to avoid bluescreen errors?

I did install that patch into the FS9 folder and never had a problem in sudden death problems after that. I never did get the Blue Screen tho, just a big freeze. I can't run FS9 legally on my new win 10 installation though. I am running FSX gold and UTX with no problems. Smooth as a baby's bum.

If you are getting blue screens due to memory you should typically find FS crashes when your PC is under a heavy load. For example, when you are using a detailed aircraft and scenery. You should also find your crashes are not typically occurring early in your FS sessions. If you have blue screens happening at random times even with simple aircraft and scenery it may have nothing to do with memory.

Hey!
Indeed!
I have patched my FS9.1.ece and it seems that the bluescreen error no longer occurs.
And I can see also that my computer now needs less memory to run the fs9...
Thank you for the excellent advise!

For what it is worth I have windows 10 and FS9 works like a champ But I did have to cheat a little. I had to use the NOCD patch to get it to work.
I know this is consider piracy but what the heck M$ will never know (M$=MICROSOFT)
