Rudder has a mind of it's own

About every 6 flights or so, my a/c will load with the rudder hard over, or I will be flying along and the rudder will suddenly start twitching to one side.

I have a number of flight sims, and FSX is the only one that does this.

What joystick are you using? Is it a Cyborg X, by chance?

It's an old MS Precision Pro.

...and have you tried running the "Joystick Calibration" program to make sure that all the movements are correct and smooth?

My old 1999 M$ Precision Pro died on me many, many years ago, with a variety of internal faults, causing me to relegate it to the Joystick Heaven, and purchase a new Joystick(s)!

Like most things, they don't last forever... ...!

I also still have the MS Precision Pro sidewinder and it's done god knows how many hours without any real problems - but as Fozzer says, sometimes it needs calibrating (probably all joysticks do)
