3d cockpit viewing problem - Please help

Postby dpeters95 » Fri Sep 04, 2015 9:43 am

I downloaded the file, "FSX Chincul PA-A-38 Tomahawk Package", and then installed into FSX Gold. When I look forward out of the 3d Virtual cockpit, there is a large blueish rectangle in front of me covering the window and down to the floor. I can see the instrument panel through it but not the forward terrain. As I look around, all the other windows are fine except they look tinted and not clear???

I am running Windows 7 if that's important. I don't have this problem with any other aircraft although I have only installed a few add-on's.

I didn't find anything like this on the board. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

TIA

Ok, as a follow up on this problem, I found out how to get rid of the rectangle in the front. Pressing the "L" (Lights) key will cause the rectangle to appear and disappear??? It doesn't lighten the tinted looking windows but it does clear up the forward view.

I tried to comment out (//) all the Lights in the [LIGHTS] section of the "Aircraft.cfg" file but that just removed the lights. When the flight loads up, the rectangle is still there by default. The rectangle still toggels on and off with the "L" key.

Ideas anyone???

There is 2 of those which one, I am downloading the one uploaded 2008 now, I am betting it was the other in 2010.
I'll have a look at the one I am downloading now.

Blue object in the way is the seat, move eye point forward with Ctrl+Backspace until your head position is correct. I press 5 on numbers pad where I am looking straight down and then move forward until you see bottom of seat below you.

Rick, no it's not the seat. I did realize the viewpoint was a little behind the seat. Here is a screenshot:

I will go download the other version and give it a try...

Both the 2008 and 2010 uploads are the same files :-(

Do you not see the rectangle in your download?

I did notice though that it must be "Daytime" in Freeflight for this to occur. I don't see that big rectangle at Dawn, Dusk, or Night??? Although, the windows are always "tinted" a little greyish. I first thought it was from the cabin lights but even with all lights off, they are tinted. When I switch to 2D cockpit it gets much clearer looking out of the window.

Wow, I wonder what is different in our setup's???

Anyone else out there with the same problem I have? Or, can you tell me if it is normal like Rick's install?

It has something to do with the lights. Lights off during the day, no silver square. There was another DL with a similar problem, but it had a "fix" uploaded that fixed the silver box problem. I think it was a correction in the panel.cfg.

Thanks for the reply! I looked at the Panel.cfg file but I have no idea what to change. I would assume it's something with the Main Panel section but what???

It looks like I'm either going to have to live with hitting the "L" key or buy a Tomahawk for FSX.

If anyone knows what download that fix was for, please let me know. Maybe I can see what it changes and apply it to this aircraft.

I have downloaded and installed and I have the same problem as Dpeter95. Swithchig lights on (I need to hit "L" twice) creates the square as in the picture in day and night.
Hitting "L" key solves the problem, but the plane is only suitable for daylight flight.
This plane is a FS9 portover and it is not working in DX10 mode (tested in my laptop without Steve's fix), but the square also appears there.
Locking vclight in aircraft cfg (as Dpeter95 reports) does nothing, maybe this vc light is in the model.cfg or air files, but I'm unable of modifying them.
I have replaced in panel.cfg a window with the lights switches window of the Goose, after hitting L all switches are OFF, but hitting any of them the square appears, so it is not posible actívate external lights.
In the download section is an advert about glass, but no glass in texture folders.

The only thing I can suggest is create and save a flight with the lights off.

Tinted windows are usually built into the model and cannot be changed to untinted unless the modeler has an optional fix for that, which is rare.

The panel problem, I've had that problem sometimes but with a more solid blockage, but I can't recall how or even if I figured out a fix, it's been a long time.

I am not a fan of tinted windows, I guess in real aircraft that's a good idea, sorta like sunglasses, but it affects our view out of the cockpit.

Thank you to all who have responded. I appreciate your input! At least I know it's not just me :-)

I'm just curious why Rick doesn't seem to have this problem... Acceleration? Windows OS? Steam Version?

I'm using the FSX Gold DVD which includes Acceleration and I'm operating under Windows 7.

I miss took your lights part of it and it is when the lights are on is when it appears and yes, I have the same problem. I changed the file format for textures to dds and that did not help, it took away graphics for right side of plane and still had windscreen problem.

Sorry about that

My test was on Steam, but I think it is not the problem.
