Unless your up for some hassles I'd strongly advise waiting a few months, let the ones keen to try it be the test beds for the new OS and then, once the issues are sorted out, by all means give it a whirl.

I'm tempted by 10,but, given Win 7 64bit has been superb for me, I hark back to the old adage, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

So I tried doing that, but there was only 1 option under the "Legacy Components" section and that was "DirectPlay". I didn't see how this would affect the issue, but I did it anyway. Still the same . . . what other options could (or should) be under "Legacy"?

I only found "Directplay" as well in the "Legacy Components"... I checked the box and restarted system... The black screen, while loading flight, was no longer.. FSX loaded as normal with the dialogue box showing the status of the loading...

I am wondering if I should just forget Windows 10 and stay with Windows 7 as all I use this computer for is Microsoft FSX with Acceleration.

Would Windows 10 enhance Microsoft FSX with Acceleration or not...or am I looking at many headaches with FSX after installation... :?:

I really think you have answered your own question. Win7 and FSX are a good match and if you have no issues then why hurry. You have a year to make up your mind. The prevailing wisdom at the moment is that coming from win7 to win 10 there is no difference in FSX while coming from win 8.1 to win 10, FSX would seem to be more robust. So that would be an improvement (apparently).
The only thing is you must have direct X 10 or 11 installed for FSX to work well. (So i am told)
Personally, I am sticking with win 7 64Bit for quite a while yet.

One thing which was news to me, apparently you can go back to the previous version within 30 days? A friend has done that, went back to win 8.1 and she said it was piece of cake. Worked really well.

I would urge you to remember, the free win 10 download is not the final product. It will be a series of downloads or updates. That's why I think it's good to wait several months. Maybe I'm wrong, but maybe I'm right.

Did my upgrade yesterday. So far the only problem I can find is it won't run FS9. It doesn't recognize the presence of disc 3 in the DVD. I understand it will work with the hacked .exe file, but I am not going there. I had to remove my FSX completely and re-install to a remote HD before it worked properly. The only prob with this is that downloads and installs using it are as slow as molasses. I experienced the black screen after hitting the "fly now" button, but after defaulting my flight to daylight, I can see that it's working. haw haw haw. Just trying to re-install UTX Can and UTX USA, but like I said, it's slower than molasses. O, I had to move the frame rate slider to "unlimited" otherwise I got a crash to desktop. Other than that, seems ok. I am trying the new "Edge" browser, so far no probs either. I can also network my XP laptop with no problems either.

The ONLY problem I have right now with 10 is the black screen on loading, which also extends to any menu changes while flying. A simple solution is just to Alt+Enter and do the changes, then Alt+Enter again once I'm done. However, aside from that it's working great. It has a built-in Print-to-PDF system which I'm loving (using my Kindle Paperwhite for a kneeboard) and the Start Menu is back. Those two things (not to mention messing with Cortana!) will keep me pretty satisfied, so long as it doesn't start slowly falling into chaos.

Travis, I'd love to mess around with Cortana, unfortunately, MS have neglected to allow Canadian users to download Cortana. They allow China, the USA and GB, but I guess Canadians don't know how to speak Inglish proper like wot they does anywhere else. O0

Nah, I think Bill Gates just doesn't want his version of Cortana to start asking for boots and ending sentences with "eh?" all the time . . . :D

Didnt someone post the solution to the black screen? Something about enabling legacy settings?
in the beginning of this thread.

Good morning all... <<u

Black screen solved by the above posted info...

Partial screen solved by adjusting the settings in FSX...

Now if I could only get EDGE to work...

Can someone also tell me how to get a picture of a Livery Change into the FSX Aircraft Library...
-the aircraft shows up with a default picture
-added the picture I took which I think is resized to Thumbnail to the Texture Folder
-still won't show picture of Flotter (Otter on amphibious floats)
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

when i do this I always scale the picture to 128 x 256 and save it by REPLACING the existing thumbnail in the relevant directory.
dont know of any other way to do this. Of course while FSX is shut down.

Someone told me that Edge collects a lot of info to 'tailor' your browsing experience which means sending info to MS?
Is this true i wonder?
not saying they misuse it but if this is true then I rather use IE which also ships with win 10 .
It would still be my choice I think over edge, although I currently use firefox rather than anything else.
Actually this is a point: in FSX if you want to print a flightplan, IE must be your default browser or the print simply wont work.
How does it behave with Edge as the default browser?

Interesting question Cusance... <<s

Edge I read has something to do with the configuration of Java but can't find the Java Control Panel to change the setting or re-configure
