Windows 10

FSX including FSX Steam version.

Windows 10

Postby Flying Trucker » Fri Aug 07, 2015 7:55 am

Would like a few opinions folks... <<u

Windows Update keeps telling me I am eligible for a Free Windows 10 Upgrade to replace my Windows 7.

The Updates which download automatically seem to Fail every time... :?:

I am wondering if I should just forget Windows 10 and stay with Windows 7 as all I use this computer for is Microsoft FSX with Acceleration.

Would Windows 10 enhance Microsoft FSX with Acceleration or not...or am I looking at many headaches with FSX after installation... :?:

Same problem here, unable to update to win10, every time I start my PC, Windows update attempts to instaló win 10 but fails.
It seems FS9 is not compatible with win10.

Personally I'm leaving any attempt for now. My experience with such programs is that 1st public release is really a final stage of beta testing.

& especially I don't want to mess with any FS installations ...... O0

Hi Guys,

Personally, I can confirm that I upgraded to Windows 10 the day after it became available.
I'm finding it to be a really great operating system, Slick, Stylish, very well thought out -- and, Simple to use.
I chose not to back anything up, and just took a huge leap of faith.
There was nothing of mega importance on my pc anyway.
I just hit the upgrade button, and 25 minutes later there it was in all it's magnificent glory !!
I had Windows 7 - 64bit before hand, and I lost absolutely nothing at all, everything I had installed before the upgrade to Windows 10 worked just as before.
Well done Microsoft, they listened to what the people wanted and have delivered in spades.
My copies of FSX-SE and Prepar3D work effortlessly.
Happy days. :D

As far as FSX and even FS9 are concerned I do agree with BlueSkies.
A couple of days ago my PC announced that W10 was ready for downloading and installation.
It took around one hour to get things running (repeated startups) but things are running perfectly.
It even recognised my printers.
There are some other issues (like privacy) however which make me think again about degrading to W7 64.
W10 seems a very d8minating and interrogative program to me, gathering and storing all kinds of information.
I like my privacy, especially on the internet.

In my case, I seem to have more problems with my various "Browsers", than I have with my actual Operating System (Win 8.1).... :? ...!

I have windows 10 and have loaded FSX on it, along with Acceleration. My only issue is that I can not instal the SDK. I keep getting a 1628 error (Windows installer issue)

Windows 10 installed on my system earlier today, and so far I'm not finding any real errors, even with FSX . . . with one current caveat: when I hit "Fly Now" the loading progress bar doesn't appear. The screen goes black and then the flight loads as per normal. Likewise, when I hit ESC the "End Flight" dialogue doesn't show either. Not really a problem, but kinda wondering what graphics setting on my rig is interfering.

I too have a devil of the time getting windows10 to load up. I get all kinds of error messages and a horrible dl situation. It seems that the program that downloads the upgrade is automatic and if it is not disabled it will eat up my gigs pretty handily. I do not know enough to figure out what is wrong but if you are going to spend half a month's allotment on an upgrade.....beware of what you don't know. If there is a solution it will have to wait a whole month because what I HAD for downloads is pitiful at the present.

windows 10 not for me:

I have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and I'm happy to say that. would I change, no. on this computer I have fsx acceleration, trainz simulator, and about 200 pinball games. windows 10 is iffy at best for me. at least I have a tab in w7 ultimate 64bit to run all of my games under xp or vista. vista I hate. there is 2 others bsides I listed but I forgot. windows 10 should have a tab somewhere that you can select what earleir versions you want to run yur games thats how my is set up with w7. actually I'm about to buy a w7 ultimate system disc. use it to build my new computer.

For windows 10... go to "control panel", then go to "programs", find, "turn windows features on or off" open.. find "legacy components" expand and check boxes... Restart system.. This should fix black screen while loading flights...

I upgraded from windows 8.1 64 bit
My problems were the computer would not go to sleep none of the screen savers worked and FS9 would not run. One nasty thing about Windows 10 is any program that it does not recognize it wants you to run them as Administrator
I even tried the compatibility method but no luck.
Now mind you I changed nothing on my system and had no issues with the screen saver or sleep in Windows 8.1 But in Windows 10 I found out that there is some unknown service that is running in the background that is stopping the screen savers and sleep from working. The problem is which of the over 30 process is the culprit.
I finally throw my hands up and said forget it and rolled back to Windows 8.1.
I have heard rumors of a update for Windows 10 is on the way Maybe that will take care of it. <<s

New comp just arrived with Win 10 installed. (Asus X99-S, Intel Core i7-5820K overclocked to 4.3GH, NVIDIA GTX980, 32GB RAM). I’m an XP man at heart, although I’ve had a little experience with Win 7 on a laptop for Arduino and SDR radio work, but not games.

The first thing I had to do with Win 10 was to deactivate all the bloat and spyware. That took a day, as I am still on a steep learning curve. I think it is wise to set up a local account from the outset and have nothing to do with Microsoft. As for Cortana; ditch the bitch is my advice! I use Firefox as my default browser and that seems to work fine on Win 10. I would not touch the new Microsoft browser with a bargepole! That said, Win 10 does come with a reasonable tool kit and so far, my third party windows tools all seem to be compatible.

I had no trouble getting MS Office to work and in fact, all of my utility software seems to be compatible so far. Games however are a different matter. At first, nothing would work; then I installed an old copy of IL2, and some kind of magic happened. From then on, more games became useable including, eventually, FSX and FS9. I had to get FSX reactivated by Microsoft support as I had run out of activations, but it was quite straightforward once I got past their pesky robot. Both sims run fine with settings maxed out except FS9 has a black screen in the menu panel (reverts to normal in windowed mode) strange though, it was OK on my other comp.

I only went with Win 10 as it was a new comp and I had the safety net of my old comp to fall back on. I would not advise anyone to upgrade to Win 10 on an existing comp without a back up! I expect that Win 10 will be improved as time goes on, as indeed all the other versions have been. I seem to remember XP being pretty useless at first; three service packs and hundreds of updates were required to get it to its present state. I remain optimistic for Win 10, as I think it has more potential than previous versions but I’m definitely hanging on to my old XP comp for now! In any case, I always keep at least three comps up and running at any one time, all with different operating systems, as I have all my cash in internet banks.

So I tried doing that, but there was only 1 option under the "Legacy Components" section and that was "DirectPlay". I didn't see how this would affect the issue, but I did it anyway. Still the same . . . what other options could (or should) be under "Legacy"?
