Steam Version of FSX

FSX including FSX Steam version.

Steam Version of FSX

Postby Gringo6 » Thu Jul 02, 2015 9:31 am

My "vista" computer crashed and burned (actually the mother board expired) and it was
not cost effective to have it fixed.

I have experienced a problem reloading FSX and may have to obtain a new set of FSX disks.

Since that is the case it might be worth while to get the Steam Version instead.

When changing to "Steam" does it require the use of the original FSX disks or is it
a complete new deal from the ground up ? Does it use acceleration ?

Trying to make an informed decision here.

As you are doing a new installation on a new computer, just purchase the Steam Version of FSX and install it directly into a Folder on your C Drive as usual.

It will perform the same as your original Microsoft FSX Disks!

No problemo!

When using steam do you also need acceleration ?

The whole Steam FSX program comes complete with everything that is necessary, ready to run!

I have BOTH the steam FSX version and the original FSX version on my C Drive!

Why both ? Does this mean that FSX payware might not run on Steam ? How do the two compare
regarding resource requirements ? If my machine performs satisfactorily with acceleration might it
not be adequate for steam ? Do they use the same version of FSUIPC ?

Something to consider !

Good grief.... ...!

The reason that I have BOTH versions of FSX is because I have loads of money, and I can afford to have BOTH versions, and 'cos I like to have BOTH versions.

They both run equally as well.

As well as two versions of FSX, I also have FS '98, FS 2000, FS 2002, FS 2004, and CFS 2, all on my Hard Drive.

I also have two motorcycles. I like to have two motorcycles because I can afford to have two motorcycles, even though I can only ride one at a time.

Its nice having two of everything...

...the choice is nice...trust me!... ....!

Paul....maybe there are two of me?...who knows?... ;) ...!

Well, that is reason enough.

Now as to the questions:

1. Will FSX payware run ok on Steam ?

2. Does steam require more capacity than FSX with Acceleration ?

3. Will the version of FSUIPC for FSX also work on steam ?

I would like to not make all of my FSX add-ons obsolete if I went there.

From what I gather, Steam FSX is exactly the same as Microsoft FSX, a straight port-over, and all the add-on programs are equally compatible.

I have no problems with my Steam version of FSX and all my bits and bobs of freeware and payware add-ons, (including my free FSUIPC)!

For a couple of pounds (£) just give it a try...nothing to lose!

I like giving things a try!

FSX Steam is a FSX Gold edition all in one installer, so is a FSX SP2. It has some improvements so It don't need the usual FSX Disc tweaks.

It installs in two ways:

A-If you have FSX Disc in your PC, FSX SE installs some files in different folders but alongside of those of FSX Disc. This may cause problems with some installers but can be solved.

B-If you only install FSX SE, I think these folders are the same as FSX Disc (I have both installed and I can't assure that).

You are in case B I think you can use all your addons with no problems.

I gather that Gringo is thinking of installing FSX on a NEW computer, (replacing his old exploded computer), so it will be a brand-new installation of Steam FSX.
So unless he has saved all his add-on stuff somewhere else, he is starting from scratch again!

O come on Paul, we know you are a pauper. Your motorbikes are old and decrepid just like you. As for FSX steam, you know you are still using FS9 as your west coast USA flight experience. Fess up mate tell the truth, steam to you is just a cloud of hot air.
