smoke file messed up

Postby Modlerbob » Sat Jun 20, 2015 1:54 pm

I screwed up and installed the effects files for a recent aircraft download without saving the old files. This smoke begins when an engine starts and apparently doesn't differentiate between piston and turbine engines. It is totally out of scale creating big black spinning rectangles about 10 ft. in diameter. I've been trying to remove it from the effects directory and so far I have removed five or six files that contain the word smoke without any luck. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Mr. Bob, try going into your Aircraft CFG File,,, and scroll down to the words

[smoke]

then look for the entries and totally delete that entry.

but - leave the [Smoke]

then substitute add on smoke files for your particular aircraft, by adding the Add On' entry you found and chose below the [smoke] entry in the Aircraft CFG File.

you can probably find what you need right here on Simviation for about any aircraft, maybe ????

Hi Modler,
The big black rectangles are an indication of a messed up effect file. There is an easy fix. Download and install "Gauges_Recovery_FSX.zip". I believe it's available at Flightsim.com. Don't let the name lead you astray. The file simply contains all the default gauge and effect files. If I recall correctly you will have some say over which files you want to restore. If you have the GPS files modified to display ground texture back these up if you choose to replace the existing; I learned the hard way. And this is a problem that shows up in various forums every few months or so and most times the reason can't be identified. In this case it sounds like it was caused by one of the new effect files which you installed.

If the airplane in question is the C-97 then did you download the 'Patch'? It has the effect file you need.
