Film composer James Horner dies in plane crash

Postby ftldave » Tue Jun 23, 2015 10:39 am

From Newsweek:

"James Horner, who composed the soundtracks for Titanic, The Perfect Storm, Apollo 13 and more than 150 other films, died in a plane crash Monday. He was 61.

A fire service official said the plane was a two-seater S-312 Tucano MK1 turbo-prop and went down in the Los Padres National Forest, according to The Guardian. Horner was the only person in the aircraft."

He scored many of my favorite films: Star Trek II & III, Braveheart, Aliens, and so many others. A sad day for us movie fans.

Sad news.

The accident report will make interesting reading. A good aeroplane, and one which before now had, IIRC, only one fatal accident in 25 years of its development and subsequent service in the RAF (a test pilot killed inverted spinning). The "civilianisation" of this relatively high performance aircraft changed a few things, and not necessarily for the better.

Some of the best movie music ever written. You could make a national anthem out of it.

"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!" - Sen. John Blutarsky

You know, this used to be a helluva good country. I don't understand what's gone wrong with it. - George Hanson, 1969

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.
