Bad scenery

Postby EVVFCX » Thu Jun 18, 2015 7:52 pm

Hi Guys,

Due to an hdd corruption I was backed into the realms of reloading win 7 etc, after two days of updates, I now have FCX re-installed and a couple of things to addon yet.
I had forgotten about the poor water/land scenery where you see land mass sticking up where it shouldn't be, river Thames is a good example where you see cliffs in the water and islands where there simply isn't any.

I can remember a thread about this several years ago where I may have discussed the same issue, there was scenery file to fix this but old age has prevented me
from recalling what it was.

Does anybody know what file I'm referring to?

regards

Steve

This is pretty much just a bump to bring it to other peoples attention.

I know exactly what you mean but, strangely, can't find any pictures of the problem on the internet.

I was trying to save time by looking for a before & after picture. :confusion-shrug:

This probably isn't going to help you, but I don't recall seeing that kind of a problem after installing FTX Global (Base Pack) and FTX Global Vector.

Good luck.

Think I've found it, had to go back through four years of threads, it doesn't mention FTX and because of the limitations of the laptop I may not have included anything that could have caused a major slowdown, I try and base my laptop on the full size cockpits, it doesn't need eye candy but smoothness, but I will deff bare the FTX in mind.

This was the thread:

Secretly I was slightly hoping that it was a major problem and had to replace the laptop but no such luck, I also wanted avoid win 8 whilst it's not fully supported.

What makes you think that Windows 8 is nit fully supported.
As you can see by my signature I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit and have had no issues what so ever. Now if you have some older programs you might have to run those in compatibility mode.
Now I agree there were numerous problems when it first came out one of the reasons I waited before I purchased it.

Hi Gary,

It's not that I think it's not supported - it's a fact that it is not supported in the full size cockpits such as those using fsx or prepare3d
which use Ifly and poss PMDG sims.

In the end I couldn't find the cfg file here, seems to have gone, I found it off one of my older haunts.

I'm currently training in full size cockpit to be able to go 'solo' , it's used by the airlines for training during the week, I tend to get in just after they
finish, last flight was startup from cold and dark, flight planning, taxi, take off, navigate to another airport, touch and go, into holding pattern, re-plan approach in flight to another runway at same airport, land and stop on runway.
My laptop is the backup training.

Gets interesting and if there is a facilty near you, go and try it, good fun especially if like me, many moons ago I had applied to co pilot training and always wondered if I could have done it.

One problem with win8 is mainly with the UAC, it cannot be turned off by mr average user as it can in win 7 via the control panel, win8 still leaves UAC active even when set at it's min setting, it prevents the use of dll files and the auto editing of xml files, only way to disable it completely is to modify the registry, win 8 has this workaround but right now it's arkward.

Our training aids at work in resus are win 8 based and not as friendly but that's what's being rolled out and we have to accept it.

Anyway I digress, my problem solved.
