Queenstown, New Zealand (NZQN)

Postby OldAirmail » Sat May 30, 2015 10:54 am

First, this isn't the high detail version of Queenstown (NZQN). That's on sale for USD$14.68 until the end of tomorrow - May 31, 2015.

I may, or may not get it, but the Queenstown airport that comes with FTX: NZ South Island is quite good enough for someone who doesn't live there.

And speaking of FTX: NZ South Island, it's exceptionally good. And the fact that it comes with a 10m mesh is fancy icing on a fancy cake.

The FTX: NZ North Island also has 10m mesh, but just isn't as impressive as the south Island. I, somewhat, regret buying it.

But here are a few pictures of the Queenstown area on the south island. This'll give you an idea of how the island looks.

Of course, the Orbx scenery looks better than I can capture, but still...

Oh, yes. One caveat. I'm flying in a Lockheed TriStar 500.

It needs a take-off field length of 8,530 feet / 2,600 meters.

It needs a landing field length of 6,890 feet / 2100 meters.

The Queenstown (NZQN) runway is only 5267 feet / 1605 meters.

In real life, this would be one of those simple questions; crash in the mountains, or try to make an emergency landing on a short runway.

It is do-able, but it took me several tries to land AND NOT go off the runway.

Todays' the last day to get FTX: NZ NZQN Queenstown for USD$14.68, but I think that I'll skip it.

As is, the area is a lot of fun to fly in. The mesh for New Zealand, both North & South islands, is 10M so that can't get any better.

As interesting as Queenstown is, the area around Queenstown is even more interesting.

So I'll stop right there. As I said before, the Queenstown that comes with FTX: NZ South Island is good enough.

BTW - I was flying that TriStar in for some hairy landings before I found out that most of "large" aircraft that landed were either 737-200 or A320

Switching over to a 737-200 made the landings MUCH easier.

Cats? What cats ???

If you want some cats they should be arriving over the next few weeks. Same for Paul.

Over the years Paul has given out enough tips on how to find where he lives, that narrowing it down was pretty easy.

The killer was when he he posted the pictures of his back yard.

Now all the cats have to do is to get close enough.

Once in his neighborhood, I'm sure that the local cats will be more than happy to give directions.

Finding your neighborhood was easy as pie. Such a unique name.

Anyway, a couple hundred cats went east. And a couple hundred cats went west.

You can hardly blame them, can you?

At one of the most intimate times, when your full attention is on pooping, a brick come flying out of nowhere!!!

You & Paul will be faced with a dilemma - Throw every brick that you have, or start running.

Try to stay and tough it out? I don't think so.

Can you imagine the sound of thousands of cats all purring in unison?

Better men than you two have been driven insane by the sound.

But if a few dozen are willing to sacrifice themselves to overload, and blow, your fuses? What then master brick thrower?

You'll be overwhelmed by the thousands.

I have a few other suprises up my sleeve. The furballs will
be in full retreat.I am thinking of sending friend Fozzer an
air ticket for some backup.I don't put all my eggs in one basket.

I love the smell of burning cats in the morning.

To late. I think that his lines of communication (and other tasty parts) has been cut off.

By now there'll be nothing left.

Go to C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\ and delete the Shaders folder.

DON'T delete the ShadersHLSL folder.

Or could just rename the folder - ShadersOLD.

I am running FSX DX10.I tried the shaders but no luck.
It is the only airport doing this. When I am hopefully feeling better
I will get on to Orbx.If no luck I will delete and take my loss.I bought
it it on sale. The default Orbx airport is not bad anyway. Thanks for the
suggestion OAM.Appreciated.

When I used FSX I permanently switched off DX10 because of the constant hit or miss problems that it caused.

Try turning DX10 off, go to C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX, delete the Shaders folder, and then restart FSX.

Sorry about the first location that I gave you, I forgot that you were using FSX.

Read this for more detail if it helps - -> Rebuild FSX Shader Cache

However, this cache is prone to be messed up when settings of fsx.CFG are changed or system is toggled between DX9 and DX10, etc.

I don't know if it'll solve your problem, but so long as you don't delete the ShadersHLSL in Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ you wont have a problem.

I decided to try your suggestions tonight anyway.
I deleted the 10 shaders and restarted.No difference.I
was still getting those horrible shadows.I then turned off
the sim and changed to DX9 and restarted.Problem solved.
Queenstown is not compatible with DX10.I will bring this up
with Orbx.

Thank you my friend for your help. You solved it.Brilliant.

Now this basket case is trashed for the day.

Warm Regards And Thanks.
