How can I augment the Preview size?

Postby Jean Loup » Mon May 04, 2015 11:23 am

You know: one chooses CREATE A FLiGHT, then one goes to Selected Aircraft/CHANGE and then one chooses the air contraption for today's flight, having a PREViEW below the menu. When I go:
Image

As you can see, the PREViEW of my K-3 is ridisculously small  and if I go OK/Fly Now same thing with my Spot Plane View!! A MiNUSCULE aircraft:
Image

After zooming-in 4 times (presing the = key) the autogyro is my desired size BUT all the scenery is also Zoomed-in:
Image

When I go same SPOT PLANE view with another aircraft, without any zoom, the scenery is small, the aircraft is the desired size for a flight:
Image

When I go View Options, this is the message:
Image

Unfortunately, in Golden Wings version, HELP does not work at all!

I tried opening the Aicraft.CFG, and changed numbers in "[Views] eyepoint=" to no avail, simply NOTHiNG changes. ANY iDEAS?? GRACiAS, Jean

FS2004: That's the TOWER VIEW, looks like. Zoom in, zoom out, that's it, no other changes that I know of. That scenery zoom is also typical of Tower View.

I found a PARTiAL solution (better than nothing!):
in my View Options I can change the distance, from 276 ft - to 66 ft (having the Zoom stay at 001.00):
Image

It's OK for the Spot Plane View   but DOES NOTHiNG for the minuscule PREViEW :snooty: :naughty:
Image

Compare Spot Plane View result of Scenery when Zooming 4 times instead
Image

Were can I set the PREViEW SiZE in FS 2004? THE aircraft.CFG file for my K-3, has a standard
"[Views]
eyepoint=0.064079,0.000000,0.358842"

& if I change it, it puts back this original [Views] at the bottom of the CFG file, jumping over my tweaked settings. It is set as standard somewhere, but how can I access it to change SiZE (for the K-3 only!)? Maybe it is a SET standard for ALL FS9 aircraft.. :violin:

I might be out in left field on this but I thought that viewpoints were just that a view from some point to another. I am not sure if changing anything here is going to effect the size of what you are looking at. If you have picture and look at it from different view points is not going to change the size of the picture in any way. What you need to change is the picture itself. I am not sure where FS gets this image from.
I would look into the FS9 CFG file for the answer. I am at work now and can not look at it. I will try to look at it when I get home this afternoon.

Thank you Gary, but the FS9.CFG file would change ALL previews, maybe the "secret" is in the aircraft.AiR file of K-3, but don't know what program to use for reading/modifying it. This SMALL preview problem, is specific to my Kellet K-3. All others have the ¿normal? size :violin:

The preview size is defined in the MDL file. You can change it with AFCAD --> http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=afcad221.zip&categoryId=

Run AFCAD & click Tools > Aircraft Editor. Select the Kellett from the list of installed aircraft.
To increase the preview size decrease the Aircraft Radius parameter & click OK. I changed it from 21 to 6.

You might need to experiment to get it how you want it.

¡¡MUCHAS GRACiAS, Hagar!! This AFCAD program does wonders: I changed from 21 to 5 (a little too big for Preview) but the intended Spot Plane View is as I wish:

Hi,

While this isn't a problem for the autogyro or people using GW in general, keep in mind that the radius value is also used to determine how closely AI aircraft can get when stopping behind you. So if you make it too small they will shove their nose up your "aft". :)

Take care,
