They are loud on the flight line, that is true. When the power comes up, they change pitch and timbre, but not much volume.
Inside, they are quiet as a King Air though. From the ground, in flight, they are comparable to a KA. On the flight line they raise a racket though, even at idle. IIRCC, the ailerons ARE ailerons except when you put in flaps, then the whole trailing edge acts as a flap, and like you say, the spoilers on top of the wing are the downforce "aileron". That might be wrong, but that's how I remember it. I've only had three rides in MU-2's, and one in a Solitare, but I'll take any more opportunities I get. I sit in the front if I can, so I can't usually see the wings.
