Adding scenery to FS9

Postby Lysander77 » Fri Feb 20, 2015 2:54 pm

Adding VFR Photographic Scenery to FS9 has got me baffled. The usual procedure doesn't seem to work, when using Visual Flight Volume One (England and South-East England) with windows 7. It did work on my previous computer (same windows 7 and fs9), but not on the newly-purchased HP. The program downloads, the file appears in the Scenery folder, but won't add properly to scenery library. I followed the drill set out in the tutorial - except nothing happens when I click in the middle of the open window (as directed). Can anyone suggest where I may be going wrong - or offer a more detailed and illustrated- tutorial?
Many thanks,

For starters where did you put the new scenery at? Be specific.
In order to add scenery to FS9 you MUST put the scenery in a folder that FS9 can see.
Most people like to make unique names for scenery they add. I put any extra scenery in the ADDON Scenery folder Inside a folder named for the scenery and than inside a folder named scenery.
Bgl files need to go into a scenery folder you can not just place them loose some where in the scenery folder and expect FS9 to find it
If you put this in the addon scenery you will have to activate it once FS9 is running You have to tell FS9 where to find it. Usually the entry will look like this. Default Location
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS9\Addon Scenery\New Scenery\Scenery
New scenery is the name you gave the folder you put the new scenery into.
You can put this inside of a folder already inside of the scenery folder as well. If put here FS9 will find it when it starts up.

Garry... :D ....

Lysander PM'd me for the info...

I sent him this, >>>>

When you have successfully downloaded the scenery file, the folder should contain two more folders inside, called "scenery" and "texture".
Take the "named" folder containing "scenery" and "texture" and drag it into your "Addon Scenery" folder in FS9.
Start FS9.
In the main screen select "Scenery" which will bring up a window listing of all your addon scenery.
Select "add new scenery" button
Locate the folder for your new scenery..in "Addon Scenery".
Click on it.
In the window before you...just click anywhere within it with the mouse..for it to be accepted!...its a peculiarity of Windows 8!!
The new scenery should appear at the top of the list...SUCCESS!
Shut down FS 2004 and re-start it.. it will now install your new scenery as it starts up!

The same process works for FSX!

The FS9.cfg File.....

In your main "Folder Options", make sure "Show All Files and Folders" is ticked!...(otherwise many of them are hidden!).

next...

Your Hared Drive...C:\users\your name\App Data\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9...and the FS9.cfg notepad file!
Always "Save" it before making any changes!

Again it works the same for FSX.

Best of luck!

He completed the process, and PM'd be back to confirm that his new scenery installation all went successfully, and he found his FS9.cfg notepad!

Many thanks indeed to both of you for your kind and effective responses to my contretemps with the scenery installation. Now everything is fixed and the pleasure of scenic flights finally restored. It is exactly your sort of generous and helpful support that makes Simviation such a valuable and pleasant resource...
