Whoaaaa has anybody checked ???

Hey I was just fiddling around with my Front face of FSX where it says HOME,, in the upper top left hand corner,,,,

NOW get this - for the last 4 years its always been the same, whatever Microsoft had for a front user face on the start up screen,,,,

I rarely ever go to HOME,,, its usually ready for FREE FLIGHT,,, Mode

But just while ago, I went to HOME on the FSX Start screen menu,,,,,

its all changed and talkin about FSX Steam edition now

and, I have the original 3 Disc FSX Gold acceleration set,,, installed, for I have not installed steam,,,,,

so, its interesting how the HOME SCREEN Changed from what it was 4 or 5 years ago to what it is now - photos of FSX STEAM Edition.

I assume that the HOME page is somehow directly connected to the internet ???? why their able to change the home front interface ?????

Blew my mind, after seeing the same thing for the last 4 or 5 years,,,

Finally after too many years they aren't talking about the upcoming "Flight" on that page anymore.
Steam hasn't done anything to your Microsoft installation but apparently they have authorization
to redirect the landing page for "Home" to something they can control. Good move on their part.

WOWZERS!

You are right!

My original FSX Microsoft installation is now owned by Steam!

Somehow they have got access to my original FSX Installation and modified it!

Its a conspiracy, I tell ya'.... :o ...!

Paul.... ;) ... ;) ...!

My two FSX installations are held on different HDD portions:
Original on C:/FSX.
Steam version on C:/....Program Files/(x86)/FSX.

The HDD Directory layout certainly seems more complicated now that "Steam" has been installed for FSX, and other Steam games!

Well spotted! The 'Home' obviously links to an outside page.

I don't think it's a great idea as I'm seeing an add for a payware item. They should create the 'Steam' as a small optional link button - nothing more.

They better just not mess with it anymore ... Otherwise it might be a good idea to get someone to create a mod to over ride it ......

Yep. Should not come as a big surprise as long as it leaves the installed stuff alone. If there is a reason for mutiny they would have to fire the first volley. Not to say there is a problem....yet.... but then again they do have a back door to the fs community. If you feel threatened by this stuff lets just pretend we are all Kings of the World. If you think they have something to offer you just remember microsoft gave up on fs years ago.

I am a member of "Steam", mainly because it gives me easy, low-cost, access to some of my favourite old DOS, etc, computer games, enabling them to run successfully on my modern PC....

...but it is sometimes a little bit worrying just how much power and control they have over my activities on the overall Site...and, it would appear...also on my Hard Drive, and System Registry!....

...rather similar to the power of; "Google"!.... :o ...!

For good...or bad?

"Steam" is a very complex Site, and one has to be very careful what one "clicks" on!

I'll go along with fsafranek, nothing has changed but the redirection of the link. :confusion-shrug:

I can't even remember the last time that I clicked on the "Home" button in FSX. It's been pretty much irrelevant since I bought it.

I Dunno' kinda Weird,

Heres the DEAL, I've had FSX Gold Acceleration since 2009 installed since 2010

I've really very very extremely familiar with all points FSX, from its folder / File structure to the layout of how its set up, because I took an entire week to tear it apart and study its contents, how and where the folders & files reside and where and why.

Everything from folders & files to FSX CFG FILES,,,and All Aircraft CFG and scenery CFG's.

I know what I used to have set for my screen resolution and what other "OPTIONS" I had for screen resolution choices,,,,,,

OK - - - - I'm now seeing more choices for screen resolution choices of higher Quality that - - - I've never had before in the menu section of screen resolution choices, they weren't there before or I would of known about them.

I have " NOT" Installed Steam at all or even attempted too, I really have NO need for steam, as I have the Factory Default 3 Disc Gold / Acceleration set in the FSX Box.

I make Videos on YOU TUBE and everythings been fine Video Editing wize - - - until like just recently , when suddenly appartantly unknown to me , apparently my Screen Resolution changed from the previous settings I had to 1920 X 1080 -16

Wasn't set like that before ????

and now when I go to edit and "Process" a Video for upload,,,, its all jittery and jumpy,,, like really badd,,,,

The 1st Video is my most recent Video like in yesterday

The 2nd Video is from several months ago - SEE the Difference , no jittery jumpy stuff,,,,

I dunno maybe it my mind playing tricks on me, but I sure don't recall having those higher screen resolutions to choose from, not that's its badd but I think it may be causing issues with my Video editing software maybe ????

Suddenly I'm having video issues I never had before then I notice the HOME Page screen change , and now I'm wondering what else might have changed we don't know about ????

I don't see how it could be done unless your directly connected and have the Steam edition itself.

I Don't have it, unless that HOME Page is directly connected to the internet and that's a web page when you click on it,,,, be the only way I can see it changing.

but STRANGLY enough , it changed my FSX Home Page and I never connected to that web page in years, yet it still somehow changed from what it was 4 or 5 years ago ???????

So, I take that as somehow , that front home page is somehow always directly connected to the internet - MEANING - that somethings running in the background unknown to us hardcore FSX users that directly connects to the internet, without our knowledge allowing changed to be made, with NO prior warning or Bullitin,,,,,

Before any of you say that's not the case ,,,,,,,, its impossible

than How'd the Home Page of FSX suddenly Change without me clicking on it or being acknowledgeable about it ????? beforehand ????

Not that I really give a flyin rats ass about the Home page what it looks like, but, when did it happen, cause from what I can gather nobody else knew much about it either on any of the FLIGHT SIM Forum web sites that I've frequently visit from here, to FlightSim.Com to AVSIM,,,, theres NOT been 1 mention of any of this by anyone that I'm aware of until this posting .

Its just WEIRD, how somehow the Home page changed and yet those of us who don't have STEAM or and have never even connected to Steam edition,, had things kinda change even tho were FSX Disk users.

Only way I see it happening is thru the Microsoft Serial number Data base for FSX Disk users their somehow able to put out a sort of, Cookie thingy ma jobber - Du-Flunky - Watcha' ma call it , that allows them to send more Du- Flunkys to registered users to change more Thingy Ma' Jobbers

I Dunno'

I feel like I've Entered the "Twlight Zone" , wheres Rod Sterling ????? :?

No need for panic. Nobody has taken over your computer. OldAirmail is correct. The FSX Home page is simply a link to FSXInsider.com
This is what you see if you're not connected to the Internet.

I've been involved with all editions of MSFS/CFS from FS98 thru FSX & I'm still learning. There are more possible variations now than ever before which makes troubleshooting problems increasingly difficult. That's the reason I restrict myself to the basics nowadays. I have no knowledge of Steam & I'd never clicked the Home page in FSX before I spotted this topic.

Hadn't clicked the home button about 4 years now, FSX is working fine, but gonna definitely make a back-up ( been awhile ), before I click on the home page. I was forced to sign up with steam so I could run need for speed. Don't seem to have any problems with it.
So this steam might be a good thing, being they are showing that FSX is alive and kicking. <<q

One major problem with the steam edition of FSX is that if you have the Microsoft version installed the steam version will use the FSX CFG file of the Microsoft version and make changes to it. When I was testing the steam edition I had to rename my FSX cfg file forcing the steam edition to make its own version.
If you plan on keeping both version I strongly suggest that you rename the FSx cfg file of the version that you are not going to run. You can not move this file to another folder as FSX will use the CFG file that is present in its normal place no matter which version you start up.
