Problem with scenery in Cali, Colombia

Postby Evan Popchock » Thu Aug 01, 2013 6:51 am

Hey,
I tried to describe this problem in an earlier post, but I'm posting this again because I have come up with a better description of this problem. Anyway, the problem I'm having is that I haven't been able to do any flights to Cali, Colombia on FSX due to major display issues regarding scenery. Cali's airport looks like it is in a giant sinkhole thousands of feet below ground level, and no matter which scenery settings I adjust to fix the problem, it doesn't do anything to fix it. I recently tried installing new add-on scenery for that airport, and just last night, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, but the problem still exists. I don't know what else to do, and I could use any assistance possible.

Thanks,

Evan

Are you talking about CLO airport code for Cali Colombia?
I know that the older version Century Of flight had several defects in scenery like you describe here but have not heard of any in FSX so far.
I am at work now so I can not look to see if my copy has the same problem. Which version of FSX are you using.
You state you uninstalled and reinstalled FSX but did you add anything at all to it that could cause this problem?
If this is the only place you see this than the odds are good that the scenery is bad. If this is the case you might be able to find a fix for it somewhere either here or in another forum like AVSIM

Evan,

[ Your earlier post]-http://forums.simviation.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=166068&p=1240177#p1240177- in which I asked a few questions but got no response.

What did you uninstall/reinstall-the airport addon scenery.......or FSX?

I rechecked SKCL, and it appears ok in FSX Deluxe SP2 using the default scenery. To help identify the problem, please answer a few questions.

Disable any scenery that may effect altitudes in the area. This could include any terrain mesh, airport add-ons, or scenery add-ons that include altitude adjustments or global scenery that include the area.

Is the entire airport sunken, including airport background and buildings, or just the runway/taxiways?

What is the altitude of the airport as listed in the map?

What are the altitudes reported by the altimeter for the airport runway and the top edge of the crater? (Shft+Z) to view alt in the upper-left red text, and use the default Cessna 172)

I checked out Cali Columbia and have no issues at all I am using FSX Gold with Acceleration And the code is SKCL not sure what CLO is.
You must have either added something or have a corrupt file <<v

If you add mesh or other scenery to an existing area it can make a difference as to the order in which you display them.
The scenery in FSX is in layers and have to be displayed in the correct order otherwise you could get something like you are seeing.
For the life of me now I can not remember the order in which they are displayed But I know for a fact that if you get things out of order weird things can happen. One of the things fsx does is that any new scenery that is added is put at the top of the list so if you have say a building for say ATLANTA airport and it gets put on the top of the list that will be displayed first followed by the rest of the scenery for ATLANTA airport which can cause undesirable effects
So you have to modify the list so that it is displayed after the main part of the ATLANTA airport.
I hope this makes sense to you.
If not think about it this way say you have a table with a table cloth on it now it would look funny if the table cloth was underneath the table that is what I am saying here you have to put the table down first then the table cloth not the other way around.
Now mind you this is only one cause of a display error like this a bad BGL file can have the same effect.

To answer your questions, I uninstalled Flight Simulator X itself. Secondly, the whole airport, including the terminal buildings and background around the runways/taxiways, looks like it's in a giant sinkhole. I haven't checked the altitude of the airport on the map, so I will have to get back to you on that one. I also haven't checked the altitudes reported by the altimeter for the airport runway, so I have to get back to you on that one too. I apologize for the late response. I have been busy with other things. <<v

If you are having this problem after doing a fresh install and have not added anything than I am about 98% sure you have a corrupt file.

Is it compatible? Have you already checked if everything has been correctly setted up or have you atleast try to re-install it?

I honestly don't know what's causing the problem, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program already.

maybe what I should try if push comes to shove, is to use the repair feature when uninstalling flight simulator. O0

Since my last message, I am still having problems with the Scenery in Cali Colombia. The airport looks like it is in a giant sinkhole. I have still been unable to fly to this area because of this issue. Is there any way I can fix it without uninstalling and reinstalling flight simulator?

This used to be a problem in some beta versions of FSX.

You're sure you have a legit FSX?

Can you provide a screenshot?

Mine is the same way. One thing that might have had an effect was the addition of the South America elevation addon. I have no idea what the Cali airport elevation was before the terrain addon.
