Fed up

Postby Steve M » Fri Nov 14, 2014 5:57 pm

I guess my simming days are over. Maybe. I have windows 8.1 and had a lot of problems getting my joystick (AV8R-01) working. (FSX) If I tap the throttle up on the ground it will just circle to the left and if I use right aileron it will get airborne but as soon as I straighten the twist grip it will bank left until it crashes. I've tried everything I can think of, calibrating, re entering the key commands to the stick. When I switch to mouse control it doesn't happen. I had the stick working for two months and then it went Rambo on me again. I first got it working by turning off the usb power power controls in win 8.1.. All the controls worked on the stick and suddenly it just kept turning left. Reading through past postings in this forum board I saw someone say 'update your Saitek drivers' in another post. So I tried it and now I have no stick controls at all.. :? It happens with all aircraft. I have checked every thing in the control panel and elsewhere and can't make it work. I suspect a windows update caused it but I have auto updates turned off. Bitch still does updates. I'm lost in space.

Maybe you've suddenly got a dodgy/worn-out Joystick, Steve!

I've lost count of the number of Joysticks I have had to replace over the years because they suddenly went faulty on me (internal wiring/electrics/potentiometers, etc)!
They don't seem to last forever!
As soon as they start giving trouble, I just throw them away, and buy another nice, new Stick!
Have you got another old/spare Stick to try?

Paul.....I like using Joysticks for Flight Simming!.... ...!

P.S...All my Sticks have been simple Microsoft Plug-and-play, and really don't need any additional drivers!

I'm pretty sure that you did this, but delete EVERY assignment assigned the that control in the FSX controler section.

Then try assigning one thing at a time to the controller & see if it works.

ALSO make sure that absolutely no other controller has the same assignment. The assignments that FSX (& Prepar3d) automatically give to controls are often bizarre.

Then do the next assignment.

Next I'd advise using FSUIPC, but you'd have to pay for that. So download the free program HIDMacros.

It's less useful than FSUIPC but for basic controls, it should do the job very well.

Interestingly, all my Joysticks have automatically assigned themselves by default to X,Y, and Z movements, and Throttle and Top-hat movements, in the Flight Sims as soon as I plug the Stick in, even in my other computer games!
Good-old Microsoft Plug-and-Play!.... ...!
I only needed to make special button assignments for things like Flaps, Trim, Radios, Maps, etc.

Thanks OAM and Foz. Are you dealing with Win8.1 though? The controller would operate everything but the plane circles left. Deleting assignments and reassigning, no go. I might try deleting the CFG and rebuilding it but the sim works flawlessly without the joystick. It's just I want a joystick.

Maybe I'll try a newer joystick. The AV8R is pretty old.

The last time that I reinstalled my flight sim the thrust (axis) lever was assigned to rudder.

All the way forward was full left rudder. :o

All the way down was full right rudder.

Needless to say, that was the last thing that I checked.

Just say'un check EVERYTHING!

Hi Steve,
I'd first check if the problem is with the joystick or FSX. If everything works in the control panel then the stick is okay. There is no cfg file involved in FSX. The settings and values are in "Standard.XML" and this is in the Controls folder down there in the folder where FSX.cfg is. Unless you want to completely eliminate all references to the stick and start completely from scratch there's no need to manually edit this. By selecting reset in the FSX control settings everything should be reset. Unfortunately, you'll lose all settings you changed. If you have FSUIPC installed this could be a possible source of problems. It does have the ability to effect the controls. Twice recently my yoke and rudder pedal assignments have swapped and I haven't ruled out FSUIPC as the culprit.

Thanks Jim. Just an update. I went out today and bought a new Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. The box even said it was compatible with Win8. First I registered it and downloaded a profiler. Then I set all the FSX key commands that I wanted to buttons I selected. Now I fired up FSX everything works perfectly so I'm back in the sky again! Fozzer.. you were right! The old 'stick' is now 'stuck' on a shelf with all the other bits that don't work

THANK YOU all for taking the time to help.. <<u

Good-on-ya, Steve!.... ...!

Computer stuff is like you and me....

..it gets old and decrepit after a while...

....and no longer functions like it/we used to in times long ago!

I've got a shed-load of old, non-working, Joysticks, etc... ...!

I have been using Logitek 3D Pro for years. It is absolutely bulletproof.

So easy to use.
