Hang Glider Hills Scenery/Dave R's Gliders

Postby jcj78 » Sun Nov 02, 2014 3:43 am

I thought I'd post s few captures from my Hang Glider Hills scenery, featuring David Rowberry's glider models. Trying to gauge interest for a follow up with more sites, the panel update for the sport2 I should've included, and a few more repaints.

This is FSX+Accel, standard mesh/textures, sliders maxed on Alienware X51/Windows 7.

Thanks to the "FSX Dive Captain" for doubling as my wireman, and the "Amazon Scientist" for helping out whenever she finds the time, as well as her dad, a retired "Bush Pilot/Ice Fisherman". Thanks also to my "Vegas Friend", who stays in contact with me via cell phone (don't tell the FCC) through some launches, and then is available for periodic check-ins, and updates as the flight progresses.

FTR, I know that some of these craft are technically not "hang-gliders", or even foot-launched sailplanes, in their presented forms. But they are fun, and landing tow-out gliders is just as fun, if you can fit em in the LZ. Since they fit with Dave's other gliders, and he was nice enough to give his blessing, I included them. His zips include instructions on how to change the tow plane.

I'll post some more later, I still need to add some text to those screen shots. I've gotten exactly zero feedback so far. Tell me what you think, even if its that my work sucks. :D I make scenery all the time, but I usually don't upload it because I never know if its up to par, and because I'm such a scenery object library whore that I doubt most FSX users would be able to utilize a lot of the scenery I make.

Well done!.... ...!

Its always nice to see some fresh scenery designs!

I populate my FS 2002 and FS 2004 scenery with "LAGO FSSE and FSE" scenery designers....
...and my FSX scenery with "Instant Scenery 3" scenery designer.

It brings the whole scenery experience to life...and is lots of fun!

Its very satisfying to generate your very own, complete, private air strip...including a NDB beacon to guide your way back home again!

Thanks Paul! I use IS3 too, and I love it. I have been a flight simmer for 10 years + (lots longer if you count all the way back to the hours I spent on Aces Over Europe and Aces Over the Pacific) but only started scenery design since I got my latest FS computer and have something capable of running and storing scenery design without really noticing it. Most of my scenery is stuff like crop duster strips, logging operations, farming ops, etc. Stuff I know in the real world.
I did one militaryesque scenery of the helicopter rescue on Mt Sinjar and published it, but it was kind of hurrried (I wanted people to have it while it was happening real world, and it was a little rough). I have Andreas Myers Airwolf and scenery, and I have built a lot of stuff around Moab, and fly helicopters in and out of the Airwolf's Lair. I have the freeware photoreal scenery for Huntsville, AL (my home base) and every once in a while I pull it out and populate it with correctly placed objects over the photos. Some day I'll finish and release it, but its not even close to finished.

I wasn't really into hang gliders until lately. I usually fly bushplanes, floatplanes, helicopters with slingloads, etc. I had David Rowberry's Bright Star installed for probably years before I flew it past the initial test flight. About a month ago I saw a youtube vid of one and remembered I had it on FSX. A little tweaking so I could get a nice tailwind with the throttle when I wanted and some panel updates later, I haven't flown much else but some other gliders for nearly a month. Anyway, here's a few more shots:

The thermals you see are not part of the HGH scenery, but part of a Moab scenery I have put together, but haven't released.

The airplanes, tents and pickup truck on the left side of the runway are not part of the HGH scenery, but part of the Moab scenery I haven't released.

This last one is not HGH related, really. Its just an example of my object library promiscuity. This is a sailplane shed I turned into a nice little cabin near Moab, where I open the doors and launch out directly.
It has a lot of Land's End Seaplane Objects, and some other stuff too. I got bushels of this crap, I just have the decency to keep it to myself most of the time.

Excellent!

Well done!

My Sim flying time goes back to the early 1980's, with Gunship, Elite, Mercenary, etc, with my Sinclair Spectrum 48k (Timex), Commodore C64, Amjstrad CPC 464, ...still got them all...still use them!... :D ...!

Much/most of my Microsoft Flight Sim time since FS '98 is spent exploring various places of interest in the news, (much of it in California and the neighbouring States), with the aid of Wikipedia, News stations, and various Google maps.

And my preferred aircraft for my low level exploratory flights: My Cessna 150 Aerobat, Lake Renegade 250, and various Gyrocopters/Gyroplanes....

Its all in the mind...you know!.... ;) ...!

While I'm fishing for some comments I thought I'd throw out a few repaints of the Bright Star I've done. I plan to include them with Part 2 of HGH if and when I release it, along with instructions on how to change the pilot's shirt to one of several I have, or something else if you like.
