The scenery is freeware from Orbx. It's "stand alone", but is intended to blend with their Northern California scenery which I don't have.

I do have their "Pacific North West" scenery, but this is significantly better.


I tend not to download a lot of small sceneries no matter how good they are unless it's for areas that I frequent often.

This is an exception to that rule. It's a fairly large area that looks well worth exploring.

I might even steal Paul's 150 to do it in.



The Eagle "aircraft" was just a lucky find, and came about after Arkanoid's comment in the first Yosemite post -

"I think that flying in that kind of places are dangerous for a tiny plane."

My little Cessna 150 Aerobat, with its exhaust-driven Turbocharger, Radio-Altimeter to make sure that you are safely above the hard stuff, a full set of Bendix-King Radio Nav instruments, a cruise speed of 140 knots, and the fact that it is also invincible....
...makes it the ideal explorer for out-of-the-way places!... ...!

Wow!, it don't get a lot lighter than that! Fantastic pix, great scenery, and the bird (a truly accurate use of the word, for once!) is pretty darn good too!

I'd wager that eagle knows his territory perfectly:) Not much chance of getting lost! And it really doesn't need much in the way of a landing zone either! A small ledge on the side of a cliff...

I wasn't expecting much from the Eagle. Until you open it's wings and move back a bit it doesn't look all that great.

BTW - the head turns up/down/left/right, and the wings can be made to flap.

Here where I live they have one of the largest wintering grounds for bald eagles in the US. There's a bunch in summer too! I've had eagles parked on telephone poles near my house, and we often pass the run into town counting the eagles and hawks (redtails, falcons, you name it). Absolutely wonderful birds...

When I was flying a glider back in 74 in Calistoga, I loved to, when the winds were right, go soar the ridge to the NE side of the valley. There was inevitably a pair of readtails would come out and fly formation on my glider, and sometimes play "chase me". That is, at least, till they got tired of playing and landed suddenly on a cliff ledge...Made for some interesting situations in my cockpit: Get focused on chasing and suddenly the bird turns INTO the cliff...Now THOSE are natural flyers! they can do aerobatics that make the military look like rank amateurs. They taught me a LOT about "how to" on aerobatics!
Great way to find thermals, though. Just go where the hawks are soaring...

Here I go again. I can never get enough of a good thing.

First up - This area in red is what I need to get the best detail from the Yosemite scenery.


I noticed that some of my pictures had blurries, so this is minimum for my system. Normally everything is set higher because of all the photo-real scenery that I use.
