At least the eyesight in the eye I have left is still great :)
Sadly, though, my arms are getting way to short to read with, drat it! :) :ugeek:

G'day Fozzer and all
Some things just boggle the mind! For a UK example, Google "Mini Monet"!
As you might gather, I'm new to this forum. Your post prompted me to register so I could comment. I have been a user of Simviation for quite some years, however.
I tend to work on the principle of "It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt" especially when it comes to technical matters pertaining to this hobby of ours!

Cheers
Andrew

ps: oops - I inadvertantly first posted this comment on your time change post - sorry. btw as you rapidly head for winter it was 40 degrees Celsius at YBOA yesterday!

I honestly don't know how people can live in the high latitudes! Brisbane's coldest last winter was +6C overnight with a day max of +17C!!

I personally am not a musician (I'm a maths/physics kid of bloke - Brian Cox rules) but I am always in awe of those that are - whatever the genre! My son and daugter-in-law on the other hand:

http://www.scenemagazine.com.au/music/e ... the-valley
Or just Google Zephyr Timbre. They were support for Jamiroquai on their Australian tour some years back.

My son is lead guitar (has his AMusA in classical violin and played in the second violin section of the Queensland Youth Orchestra years ago) and his wife is the vocalist. I don't need to point out that she is NOT the male vocalist in the beginning of this clip do I? My sons best friend was the bass player, but he died in an auto accident a few years ago (RIP Dan). This gig turned in to a memorial for Dan.

Being a newcomer to this forum, please tell me if my posts are appropriate or otherwise

Cheers

G'day again Foz,
Bl**dy hell! You're serious! Your list reads like my son's work studio! Have no idea what the music scene is in the UK, but here it is very difficult to break into! Groups such as my son's tend to be brief lived, so he has a "day" job managing the electronica section of a music/instrument shop and, as a side, spends a lot of time with composition and production. Only the few make a living in the music world!

Tea at 1600 sharp! A bit early for me - that's ony 0200 for me!!!!!!
cheers

For those who don't comprehend, I'd select a very young birch tree, fifteen feet or so high, that I could get my hand at least half-way around. Birches are quite flexible (made my early bows from them) and they would bend downward as I climbed hand-over-hand; depending upon the tree, it would have bent down enough from my weight when I reached the midpoint up its trunk so that I'd be dangling vertically; by the time I reached its top, it would be arched near to the ground (where I'd again be standing).
;)

As to music, I'm no genius, either. I didn't use much other than a cymbal or such in grade school (I did sing in a boys' chorus until I was 12, though). My mom still had her guitar from when she and her youngest sister were a duet on local radio; I tried playing it but my double-jointed fingers kept bending backwards and locking under the strings when I changed chords. When I was writing music, I matched the keyboard (of piano or electric organ) to my voice so I knew what notes went on the sheet.

@H...

Amongst all the beautiful trees, the Silver Birch Tree is one of my favourites!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betula_pendula

...with its silvery trunk, and its small leaves allowing the sunshine to reach the ground.
Always a delicate-looking tree, although it is quite hardy!

Surprise!...>>>

End quote.

I like to see a mixture of "Deciduous Trees" in the woods and forests, rather than overwhelming "Coniferous Trees"!

The actual white birch is New Hampshire's state tree...
and we still have quite a mix of fir and hard woods.

Invasive Silver Birch Trees:

....blame it on all those pesky Europeans invading the East Coast of North America and Canada, and taking all sorts of bits and bobs along with them!

OK, getting back to it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rac7Y2skf_Q

Not only is he playing without any playing errors, but he floats his hands above the keyboard and accurately finds and plays what's coming up.
Eventually, with proper lessons from an instructor who knows how to teach the blind, he could easily become an accomplished pianist.

from Wikipedia:
"Braille music, although different from print music, is in general neither easier nor more difficult to learn. Visually impaired musicians gain the same benefits upon learning to read braille music as do sighted musicians who learn to read print music."
"Visually impaired musicians can begin learning to read braille music about the time they have reasonable competence reading Braille."
"Braille music for beginners, like print music for beginners, is quite simple. Sighted or visually impaired music teachers with no previous knowledge of braille music can easily learn the rudiments of braille music notation and keep a step or two ahead of the beginning student who is learning braille music."

(He could also possibly learn much by ear, without Braille music, but Braille music would open things up.)

from good ol' Johann:
"There is nothing to it. You have only to hit the right notes at the right time, and the instrument plays itself."
- Johann Sebastian Bach, referring to the keyboard

Well, I dunno about that. We mere mortal musicians do have to practice a bit, don't we?
