Personally... ;) ....

I think that we should give Northern Ireland back to the Irish, so that they can stop blowing us up, over here in Great Britain... :o ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of ... rn_Ireland

The whole of Ireland can then be called; Eire, like it used to be called in Ye Olden Days.....>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89ire

I think that the Irish, (or Eirish), would be very happy to govern themselves, and live in peace with the rest of we Great Brits over here.... :D ...!

Disadvantages: It would make a mess of the Union Flag again... ...!

Advantages: The Island of Ireland (Eire) shields we Great British over here, from the worst of the ravages of the North Atlantic Storms... ....!

Nice little video there Oldairmail :)

... but rather than remove subsequent comments I will just clarify something

1. The Provisional IRA (disbanded & who incidentally haven't 'bombed' in the uk mainland for many many years -- ) come from part of the UK -- 6 counties of northern ireland) (& the biggest bomb of the 'troubles happened in Dublin in mid 70's and thought to be backed by british military intelligence)

2. The majority of 'northern ireland' voters are decendants of settlers put there by england 100's of years ago and wish to remain british ..

3. I have never met someone from the republic who REALLY wants a united ireland .... It's a pain in the butt .... but settled pretty much now (in case some people didn't hear)

Now move on folks .... ;)

AMAZING! I've destroyed the UK!

That was too easy.

Well, now that I've sowed disunity over there, I'll pick a REALLY contentious subject -

The Languages of the Netherlands
(or whatever you want to call that place where silly little boys in wooden shoes go about sticking fingers in holes)

Frisian dialects
West Frisian is an official language in the Dutch province of Friesland (Fryslân in West Frisian). The government of the Frisian province is bilingual. Since 1996 Frisian has been recognised as an official minority language in the Netherlands under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, although it had been recognised by the Dutch government as the second state language (tweede rijkstaal), with official status in Friesland, since the 1950s.

Low Saxon dialects

Veenkoloniaals
Stadsgronings

Guelderish-Overijssels Urkish

Twents Oost-Twents
Vriezenveens (this is actually a separate dialect because of Frisian influences)

Twents-Graafschaps
Veluws Oost-Veluws
West-Veluws

Minority languages, regional languages and dialects in the Benelux countries

Low Franconian dialects
West Frisian Mainland West Frisian
Insular West Frisian

Burger-Zeeuws
Coastal West Flemish

East Flemish

The Rhinelandic dialect continuum
—— Low Franconian (Dutch) ——
(1) Brabantian (incl. South Guelderish, East Bergish)

(2) Limburgish (incl. Low Bergish)
—— West Central German (Central and Rhine Franconian) ——
(3) Ripuarian (incl. South Bergish)

(4), (5) Moselle Franconian (incl. Luxembourgish)

(6) Rhine Franconian
South Guelderish (Kleverlands) Rivierenlands

Brabantian Northwest Brabantian
Central north Brabantian
East Brabantian
Kempen Brabantian
South Brabantian
North Limburgian

Limburgish West Limburgish
Central Limburgish
Southeast Limburgish
Low Dietsch

Dialects fully outside the Netherlands

Luxembourgish is divided into Moselle Luxembourgish, West Luxembourgish, East Luxembourgish, North Luxembourgish and City Luxembourgish.[citation needed] The Oïl dialects in the Benelux are Walloon (divided into West Walloon, Central Walloon, East Walloon and South Walloon), Lorrain (including Gaumais), Champenois and Picard (including Tournaisis).

I'm willing to bet that the only reason that they don't break up into little independent countries is that the water & sewer system would become too complicated. :D
