Dunsfold Wings & Wheels 2014

I managed to get up to Dunsfold last Sunday for the annual Wings & Wheels event. The main reason I went was to see the two Lancasters plus the Hunter, Canberra & Vulcan.
I wasn't disappointed. Here's a few pics.

Shame the sun disappeared for most of the show but otherwise conditions were perfect, warm with a light wind. A very pleasant day out.

That is a remarkable set of photos.
My wife and I were lucky enough to see the two lancs and two spits at the "combined opps" display at Headcorn a couple of weekends ago, but I would love to see the Vulcan before it's too late.
Once again, great set.

Incidentally, although her camera is only cigarette packet sized, it must have incredible shutter speeds (do digital cameras even have shutters?) to freeze the props the way it has.

That's a good shot. In fact a better composition than mine. Nothing wrong with modern compact cameras.

Incidentally, although her camera is only cigarette packet sized, it must have incredible shutter speeds (do digital cameras even have shutters?) to freeze the props the way it has.

It all depends on the settings she used. On most cameras the automatic Sports mode will usually have a comparatively fast shutter speed to freeze the action, typically 1/1000 second or more depending on the conditions. This is not always desirable. You can freeze a prop at anything over 1/500 second. With prop aircraft the slower the shutter speed the better. The idea is to get nice blurred props with the rest of the aircraft pin sharp, not always easy. You might try Landscape mode next time.

Generally speaking, compact cameras don't have mechanical shutters but DSLR cameras do.

Interestingly, until I saw the two great individual shots of the Lancasters by Hagar, I hadn't realised that the upper-mid turrets are in a different position between the two variants. I'm sure there are lots of other differences but I should have spotted that obvious difference.
We learn something new every day.

Hi everybody,

What's with the 'see the Vulcan before it's too late' !!!

Dig into your pockets and pledge some money then at least she'll fly next year.

The engines are going to become the main problem, Rolls Royce don't have the design specs for the them so parts for engine rebuild is a problem, problem our stupid government is to blame.

The Vulcan is based at one of my local airports and was one of my favourite places to work when the RAF were based there.

Goto www.vulcantothesky.org to see about pledging money and don't forget about the gift aid, that way they don't need to pay any taxes on your donations, you have to be a UK tax payer to do the gift aid but any money would be welcome.

I wear my Vulcan to the sky tee shirt with pride, making sure everybody sees it when I go on hols.
