FSX ATC window blank

FSX including FSX Steam version.

FSX ATC window blank

Postby leberak » Wed Jul 30, 2014 5:29 pm

When I run FSX and I open the ATC window, I get a blank box with no text.
I have deleted the fsx.cfg file. After FSX restarts, the ATC window does appear normally, but if I change the aircraft I get the same blank window. It doesn't matter which aircraft I choose, the window is empty. I have tried all combinations of display resolution settings, 32 bit, 16 bit but it doesn't matter. I have disabled all add on scenery with no change in the problem.

I am running FSX under Windows 7 premium with service pac 1, 64 bit. I am running an Intel core 2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86 G, and 4 GB of DDR2 memory. My Nvidia graphics card has 1 gig of on board memory.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone that has had this problem and was able to solve it,

Check your General settings make sure "show message log in atc window" is ticked.
Hope this helped.......

Thanks, but that was one of the first things I checked. it is easy to overlook something like that but it has been checked.

Hi again,
After re-reading your initial post it doesn't sound like a missing font. If I'm reading it correctly, after you delete FSX.cfg you see the ATC window with text displayed but never see the text again. Presumably this pattern repeats. I noticed the !.86 GHz CPU so I suspect either a background task stealing resources or scenery settings too high. I'd try disabling as many background tasks as possible (use GameBooster?) and turning all your scenery settings temporarily to minimum.

When you select ATC, and the window pops up, and you make your selection from the list, do you hear the audible instructions from ATC?
Working fine for me, at the moment.

Paul.

..... .....thinking....If you cant see the list, you don't know which button to press!.... ;) ....Try any number button...!

Note: The computer is definitely underpowered to run FSX!...(much better for FS 2004).

I did try just hitting the number 1 which should be the first selection if the window did contain text, but nothing hapened.

No voice either.

good idea, it just didn't work.

Microsoft support BTW is totally useless. Normally I am a very positive person but the apathy at Microsoft is starting to really upset me!

Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't think it is the font either especially since ATC does work when I first start FSX.

FSX re-writes the CFG file each time it runs. I tried making a copy of the CFG file by pulling the ac plug from the computer while ATC was working. Then setting the CFG file attribute to read only but FSX will not run if it cannot re-write CFG every time the program is started.

I noticed that there are two CFG files. One is the orignal unmodified file other is the current file. Copying the unmodified file and renaming it to FSX.CFG doesn't work either.

My next step will be a line by line comparison between the working CFG file to one that is generated after it stops working

Thanks to everyone who have contributed!

Thanks to everyone that responded for my request for help in solving the missing ATC text!

I have found that the problem was in an corrupt installation of FSUIPC! Removing, then Re installing FSUIPC solved all the problems that I had.

Again, Thanks for your suggestions and help!

If this is the first time you have used FSX, and all else fails, I would suggest un-installing the program, re-setting the computer, and re-installing FSX again.
Its an unusual fault, and maybe something has corrupted the program!

Probably the easiest solution, and not much will be lost.
