Life After FSX

Postby Bubblehead » Mon Jul 14, 2014 11:18 pm

A while back I submitted a thread inquiring whether MS has something planned for after FSX. There were hardly any replies however recently I ran into a website which essentially stated that it was taking over the FSX Gold Edition and that there will be another flight sim software in the works entitled "Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition." Can anyone elaborate or this?

Apart from the usual rumours, moaning & groaning, etc.... Nothing much new!
This is just another way of distributing FSX, without MS$ having delivery costs & inventory costs worldwide. So, instead of buying CD's/DVD's etc, you now will be able to download the program. X-Plane is going this route as well.

So, for those that still have FSX, no change. For those that still want a 5-6 year old program, wait until you can get it from Steam. For those that want the 'latest' ... P3D?

My original purchase 2.5 years ago was a download direct from MS. Nothing new there.

I guess there's nothing to get excited about as long as my copy of FSX does not deteriorate.

I wouldn't say there's "nothing" to get excited about. Dovetail Games, who obtained the licensing rights to Flight Sim X: Steam Edition, announced that they are looking into making a flight based simulator/game for a 2015 release. Nothing else is known other that it will be based on Microsoft technology. Whether that means a spin-off title or a brand new title altogether remains to be seen, but it sounds like something to keep an eye out for. Their train simulator isn't half bad if you're into that kind of sim...
