Problem with add on Airport causing FSX shut down

Postby bmw1984 » Sun Jul 06, 2014 8:19 pm

CYHZ, Halifax, Canada add-on. Causes FSX to close down. Sometimes even have to restart PC.

I use FSX & Fsx Acceleration and Windows XP.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated, Vern. <<t

I'm not a FSX guru by any stretch of the imagination but here's my thoughts. First completely delete the CYHZ file. It might have somehow been corrupted. Start FSX and see if it runs properly. If it does run as it should then try to download the CYHZ file from another source. Install it and run FSX again. If FSX crashes jettison the CYHZ file.

If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

Like Hawkeye says....

For a quick test, un-tick the entry in the Add-on scenery list, then run the Sim again from the start, if that cures the problem, then select "Remove" (the file) from the Add-on scenery list, and re-run the Sim again.
This should prevent any chance of "file not found" when restarting the Sim!

Hi Vern. If I could find this addon I would check it out for you. Can you provide a file name or a link to the page where I can download it.

Deleting scenery files without first removing the area from the FSX Scenery Library is liable to cause problems & error messages. If you wish to remove the scenery please follow Fozzer's advice above.

I assumed he would know that procedure was the first step in the process. Maybe I should quit assuming, huh?

Sorry for butting in. My motto is: Never assume anything. I always treat people I don't know as beginners. ;)

I have never considered your comments as "butting in". If anything they've been most helpful.

Hagar; file cyhz_Halifax_intl_airport.zip can be found at Flightsim.com if you would like to try it.

I did contact the author of the file and he could not understand why these problems came up.

I could not find any scenery downloads (freeware) for Halifax in FSX. Earlier versions yes, like FS2004. So maybe he is trying to use scenery dsigned for a different version of flight simulator.

I tried it & it works fine for me. Installation is a bit tricky though. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully. Note the comments I've marked in red.

New Installation:

1. Copy and paste CYHZ_ADEP_RWC.BGL or CYHZ_ADEP_CW_RWC.bgl (One Only) and CYHZ_ADEP_CVX.BGL files into FSX\Addon Scenery
\Scenery Folder.

2. Copy and paste default_terminals_ss.bgl and lightobj.bgl into the FSX\Scenery\Global\Scenery Folder.

3. Copy and paste lights1.dds and almwht.dds into the FSX\Scenery\Global\Texture Folder.

The CYHZ_ADEP_CW_RWC.BGL version is with Xwind runways activated and in full operation.
The other version CYHZ_ADEX_RWC.BGL is without. Use only one of these files.

I found it at in the AVSIM library, downloaded it and installed only the required files in the addon scenery and texture directories and it worked fine.

OK, at least two persons have tried it and "works fine" for them - It is possible then that the combo of scenery settings
and aircraft settings - caused the problems.. Thank you everyone.

Highly unlikely that any scenery setting would cause this issue. It could however cause it not to show a lot of the actual scenery as when you reduce the setting for scenery you will loose details
And aircraft setting has nothing to do with scenery at all.
The only thing that would cause this issue would be a bad file or the file being used is for FS9 not FSX this could cause a issue like this

I'm wondering if a conflict is caused by having both optional BGL files (CYHZ_ADEP_RWC.BGL or CYHZ_ADEP_CW_RWC.bgl) installed at the same time.

Hmm That is a possibility One would think that this would not make a difference but you can not be sure. Every BGL file in my system have lower case .bgl
but you can rename the BGL type to a bak file and see what happens. If nothing than restore the BGL and rename the bgl to .bak and see what happens than
