FSX Version of deHavilland DH91 from Ford Project Site

Hi Good People,

Many of you might know that the Ford Tri-Motor Project has pumped out a ton of FS2004 releated Product for the Ford Project, wide range of historical aircraft, thousands of liveries and absolutely tons of scenery.

Recently we implemented the Jens B. Kristensen's DH91 Albatross aircraft within the project as an FS2004 package. With Jens consent of course.

As Jens had also developed a FSX specific version of the DH91 we, the Ford Project Team, thought we might be a little bit adventurious and package and publish an FSX release on the Ford Site.

This will be our very first excursion into FSX product release - done to see if any FSX'ers out there might enjoy something from the Ford Project that was specifically developed for your enjoyment.

If this venture is fruitful for you and there is enough interest then we may publish much more FSX based projects in tandam with the plethora of stuff we have available.

Where can you get the FSX DH91 - here: http://www.ford-tri-motor.net/Misc-Aircraft.htm

I hope that you enjoy this old girl and the 30 odd liveries plus some paint kits.

Happy Simming to you all.

Regards

Garry Smith and Edward Moore.

I've been following the Ford Project for quite a while now.

So I was VERY happy to see this posting.

Unfortunately, I've switched to Prepar3d V2.2, and no matter what I do, P3d crashes to the desktop as soon as I select an HD91 aircraft.

But DO keep on trying. Hopefully one day it might be different.

Thanks for trying. :D

Hi Mate,

I don't recall mentioning that the new FSX version of the DH91 was also Prepar3d V2 compliant or compatible. I do not have Prepar3d V2 on my system and do not plan to do such in the immediate future. Busy enought with two environment :)

Our simming program focus will remain the Microsoft Products at the moment - FS2004 and FSX. With no assurances that the products will work with other products outside of those medias.

Our development of any of the conversion from FS2004 to FSX will be in accordance to the file and process principles of those environment to the best of our abilities.

If there is some sort of process of converting from the Microsoft platforms to the Prepar3d V2 platform then the onus will be on the Prepar3d V2 users to experiment and tinker to migrate such.

No complaints intended.

A lot of FSX software will automatically work with Prepar3d. But some don't. :confusion-shrug:

Regardless, I applaud your work. You're doing a great job. :D

Hi Mate,

No offence taken with your "critique" - just not a supported platform by the Ford Project.

One possible clue - FSX allows a feature of storing "shared" textures in a directory called "texture.shared"

In this directory are all of the textures that require no changes for the various textures created - internal images, pilot, glass, prop etc etc

In each texture directory is a text file called "texture.cfg" which contains a pointer to the texture.shared directory for those shared texture files.

In the DH91 case the texture.shared contains 17 files - a total of around 5meg in size.

This process reduces the overall size of the download and install from 17x5=85mb+27mg=112mb down to just 27megs

This is not an often used practice as most release an aircraft and a texture or two - however I most often release a large batch of textures from the Ford Project so I pushed the boundaries of FSX and used a little used feature that works well for FSX.

You could try a test - copy all of the files from the texture.shared directory into one of the liveries - delete the texture.cfg file (important) - and then fire up your program and specifically try to load the aircraft texture you tweaked.

If that works then you will have to do the same cycle for each texture set in the DH91 Project.

I'll be sure to give that a try this evening.

This would be a great partner for my Focke-Wulf A200 Condor from the same era.
