Nice pictures. Very interesting plane selected, because (see last picture):

You have been flying close to Pollensa (Pollença) seaplane air base. The military was created during the 1936-39 civil war and later was used for rescue seaplanes and at present for firefigting CL215's (CL215's are operated by the Spanish airforce). IATA code LEPO.

It is located NE fron Soller.

Thanks for the pics, papituwall.

At the very end of 1953 my family flew to Madrid, and from there to Mallorca.

We lived in Palma on the east side of the bay.

At the time, the bay was full of working sail boats, NOTHING like it is now with all the yachts.

When I looked out at the bay, I saw a fleet of small boats with their masts a bobbing to and fro.

That and the Bellver Castle are two of my strongest memories of Mallorca.

Image

I remember, when we crossed the bridge, there was a HUMUNGUS (to a 3 year old :D ) green tinged cannon on the left.

They (my parents) put me and my "big" brother on top and took a picture.

Much of the castle was cordoned off, but we did look at a lot of stuffed horses in armor with armored men astride the horses.

I've never seen so many suits of armor and swords in my life.

Truthfully, how much armor can a little kid look at? I was tired of all that walking.

Luckily, I spied an empty chair just past some kind of heavy (probably velvet) rope.

Then some stupid men in fancy dress came over AND BOTH OF THEM PULLED ME OFF the fancy big chair! :o

Image

AND I SAW IT FIRST!!!

I guess that that was OK. We left just after my father finished talking to them.

It was kinda interesting, even to a little kid though.

We got to see the center a little, but it was roped off.

Image

It looked like they were still building the castle 'cause the inside had no walls. Just some columns and building stuff.

One thing about moving to a foreign land where few speak English, THERE IS NO WAY that you can forget those memories, even at the age of three and four years old.

I must have learned to speak some little bit of Spanish. But it's all gone now.

What a ramble!

At any rate, this was freeware. If the payware goes on sale I might buy it.

The mesh is GREAT, but the photo-real wasn't all that good.

Once you get above 5,000 feet it looks ok over the city and towns.

As you can see the mountains look fine at sea level.

PS - I found a CANT Z512 over here.

Thanks everyone.

Yes, there's a lot to like, and for the most part it works well with the FSX stuff that I already have.

A side note to papituwall.

Can you recommend any good (free) mesh, and or, scenery of Spain?

Most people post pictures of planes.

I prefer pictures of planes and the locations of where I fly them.

Nice history in Mallorca OAM.

The spanish fotosceneries are all free because the photos used are property of the Goverment so no commercial use can be made of them.
Concerning spanish sceneries I suggest:

AIRHISPANIA

This is the reference website for Aircraft Simulation in Spain and includes the "must have" AirHispania SC scenery.
AirHispania SC is a comprehensive program that contains airports, heliports, labels with the names of villages and cities and a 5m mesh.
There is a version for FS9 and one for FSX. There are links to other sceneries.

http://www.airhispania.com/

Top right is the google translator, go to "scenarios" and you'll have FS9, FSX versions, Other sceneries and Real Spain.

The FSX scenery I use is the second one in the list of Other sceneries and is here:

http://deckard.uv.es/

A note on REAL SPAIN, because has been put apart in Airhispania:

It is the best known an more comprehensive for FS9 and FSX. Resolution 4m/pix.
At the right, you have UK and France flags for translation.
Has its own autogen (many spanish buildings, mediterranean appearence) and compatible with other photoreal sceneries.
Also there are more sceneries, not only from Spain (Dubai ...) .
Ultralight compilation, etc.

Congratulations OldAirMail, as spanish sim pilot I´m very happy that other simmers fly over my country. You have chose one of the most beatiful places in Spain, Majorca´s north coast, next time try to visit Galicia coast in NW Spain. I´m sure you´ll enjoy.

Papituwall thanks for the historical info and vintage pics.

Thanks, Arkanoid.

I started downloading the mesh for Spain from here last weekend.

I don't know if that's the best source, but it truly makes a HUGE difference. Far better than the payware mesh - FSGenesis.

Image

The mesh that I download last week was for CATALUNA.

As I download each section I'll add the word "Mesh" to the name so I can keep track of what regions I have.

Image
The location names come from Wikipedia.

Very interesting. Not only am I having fun flying around the world, but I'm learning interesting things too.
