After the heavens opened

Postby expat » Tue May 20, 2014 6:51 pm

I forgot I took this picture. Mind you it was just after I got pi$$ wet through so I had other things on my mind... I was in the middle of a daily check on an A320 and the heaven's opened. No warning, no spots or light rain, but open the taps and down it came. Once it cleared, the sky was quite impressive reflecting on the wet ramp.

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

That's a great screen shot! What weather engine were you using?

I checked your work link again.

Go to your "Gallery" page. Second picture down in the first column.

I think (occasionally, but not to excess) that you should use that picture for your signature. :D

Any idea where I can download it, and does it work in FSX/Prepar3d? :D

Expat's personal plane. :D

What a great shot Matt! I must confess though, an empty ramp always feels a little spooky to me. I don't know why it just does. :o

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

Looking at the size of that ramp, and the amount of water that all that enormous area of concrete must contain/retain in a downpour, makes me wonder how it is all drained away, and where it all goes!... ...!

Natural drainage is lost when householders lay large areas of concrete, paving, decking, etc, which then creates floods!

When I said the heaven's opened Paul, I mean they opened. Rain drops the size of your thumb. There was so much water sheeting off the aircraft that I had to manually override the avionics cooling and close the skin inlet and outlet valves as the inlet was clearly sucking in water. In a word......not normal for the North German Plain. The water drained but it took a little longer than normal.

And yes Doug, an empty ramp is a little spooky. Sadly that is the norm at the moment in aviation. The smaller airports are suffering as they are only being used in general as fly in and not overnight. Companies are saving left right and centre at the moment.

Are you sure that's not a float-plane base??? Looks like one to me! That's not a ramp, it's a lake! :character-sebastian:

Lucky for me when I worked on a flightline, 1) the occurance or rain at all was a huge rarity, and even when it did rain, it was usually warm and evaporated in a few minutes...USUALLY!...and 2) I always had wings to hide under or hangars to hide in. Then again, we always had plenty of warning too. The tower would call every squadron for those few rare occaisions when it would actually rain in any signifigant quantity. They were actually pretty good with lightning warnings too. Not as good as I was when I was the head wx prognosticator at the aerostat site, but still...I know, I'm too modest, but there it is...

Still a lovely picture. I love the smell in the air before, during and after a good rain. It's as though the world has been washed clean, without any detergent! Just pure, clean, fresh water... :chores-laundry: :chores-mop: :)
