Artist uses 282,000 matchsticks to build scale model of the ISS


Let me say, before I start, that there is absolutely no way that I could have done even one small section of that. I just have no artistic ability.

On the other hand, a flood of thoughts all tried to pass through my pea sized brain at the same moment.

The first four were -

* A "1/26 scale model"? Wow!

* "282,000 matchsticks"

* An "artist" or an obsessive-compulsive?

... the idea of designing and building a complete scale model of the ISS out of matchsticks seemed like a perfectly reasonable idea.

... and took roughly 1,950 hours to complete.

* Will his next project be - to get a life?

OK, lots of time on his hands, and skilled hands (and mind, too) it takes for something like that. We'll give 'im 3 cheers for it all.

It looks like a job very well done. There's a whole bunch of small scale matchstick kit projects, ships and trains and planes etc, on eBay, so I just noticed,
in case this inspires any of you. I'll pass.

Mind you with my wife and my modelling, she looks at it this way......If I am in my workshop then:

1. She knows where I am.

Yep, Ozzy Osbourne there. "Whoooosh" to both versions. Just takes ya back, don't it? OK, well, it sure takes me back. Ozzy's version is a bit slow, I'd say. I prefer the original, but hey, "Things change, don't they?" Very true! Even more so in my sea days, cell phones didn't exist yet. The walkie-talkie size wireless phones were around but that's it. The only ship to shore comm for most of us was snail mail and the occasional emergency telegram. I understand that now there is wireless aboard the ships but how it works and when is it active I'm not sure.

Very impressive work! Heck I never even finished the plastic model of the space shuttle and never attempted doing the space station in such detail. And I'm told I am a pretty good model builder.

My youngest lad was bitten by the model building bug and bought himself the Revel kit of the space shuttle. He build the four parts separartly and then said to me:
"Papa, I want to play with this, so the rocket boosters and the fuel tanks need to be able to come off, how can we do that"......

Not wanting to disappoint, I said leave it with me, hoping he would forget.......
Well he kept remaining me......Long story short......magnets and some very small picture hooks....He was very happy!
