Oy...Back To The Sky...BUT...Tweaking Help Needed.

Postby Cheveyo » Fri May 09, 2014 7:59 pm

Been way too long once again. Work doesn't leave me with much free time, but I have been in the sky for awhile now, sure do miss these forums. However experiencing some not so amazing FS performance that I'm hoping to fix.

I had FSX installed, but didn't find it quite as enjoyable since its missing some of the features I use a lot. Also not in the mood to figure out its programing as I like to create my own AI etc and all my programs are not FSX compatible. So made the move back to FS9.

The main issue is blurry textures, aircraft wise its not bad, but the ground scenery/AI traffic is horrendous, mountains are just BLAH. I know FS9 isn't perfect but the default was far better looking on my old rig.

All FS related things are installed on their own personal hard drive by themselves, and I'm wondering if maybe that could be an issue? Its almost like FS is running off its default settings and ignoring the graphics card completely.

The sky textures are amazing though, decided to buy REX with Overdrive awhile back. But the photo real concrete, etc are not showing up at all...can't figure that one out.

System specs...my old rig had less then a quarter of the power and FS9 was amazing...This setup should make it run crying for mommy, but its not even shedding a tear  Have the FPS locked at 40 and they never drop. 22" LCD monitor running FS at1980x1080x32 res.

Cooler Master 1000W Power Supply (Fully Modular)
Gigabyte GA-ZA7X-UD3H Motherboard
Intel I7-4771 Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150 Quad Core Processor
Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB DDR3 1866 Memory Dual Channel
EVGA/Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 Classified 4GB GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 x16 Graphics Card
2x...Western Digital VelociRaptor 250GB 10,000 RPM Hard Drives SATA III 6GB/s
Windows 7 Ultimate

Its been so long since I spent time in the FS world that I forgot a lot of the tricks to tweaking it. Had a nice crispy sim before, but what am I missing to get this new rig back to that?

If some of this post doesn't make sense feel free to ask for clarity on something...Its been a very long day and not thinking to strait at the moment.

Very strange!

After running FS 2004 very successfully, flat out, since it was first released, on my various computers Pentium 4, 2,4 GHz + nVidia 7800GS....
It wasn't until my P4 Computer exploded that I was forced to purchase a proper, fast, gaming computer to enable me to run my FSX even better than my FS 2004!
I am thoroughly delighted with my FSX, and have had no reason to fiddle with the XX.cfg file, (apart from varying the density of Trees and Objects to more suit the areas that I fly over).
Everything runs silky-smooth, with most/all of my settings at Max, and my frame rates locked at 25FPS.
What has made the biggest difference to the beauty of my scenery, is my installation of both OrbX FTX Global, and FSX Ultimate Terrain USA (and Europe).
These two add-ons bring the whole of my scenery to life, with their correct terrain mesh, and the realistic ground scenery...(UT USA is amazing!)...

....the rest are the many Freeware FS 2004 and FSX airfield scenery add-ons....which all work fine in FSX!

I haven't found a need to fiddle with anything to achieve amazing results in my FSX!

All it needed was a Zippy Gaming Computer, eg: high-speed Processor!...(Signature details below).... ...!

Paul...a Happy Bunny with my FSX!.... ...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

You have an impressive machine, FS9 should work at its best.
If you google for "fs9 tweaking" you'll get several guides, more or less all are the same. The best are Nick's ones, but were written some years ago, I have not found the original. I really don't use it in my FS9 as Fozzer does.
Here one: http://www.flightsimworld.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28865

For your Nvidia 770, use Nvidia inspector, the Nvidia control panel is not bad but Inspector is better.

Here is an example:http://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img443/1917/fs9ni.png
And also google for Nvidia inspector FS9 settings.

Finally there is a 4GB patch, for 64 bit systems. I don't use it, because some addons crash FS9

Good flights!

As always... ....

...I leap in at the deep end with my suggestions, and fail to notice that this is the FS 2004 Forum...(not FSX).... ...!

But having said that, your FS 2004 should run perfectly on your speedy System, with little of no major adjustments....

...mine did...It ran deliciously smooth with my old Pentium P4, 2.4 GHz dual processor, and G-Force 7800 GS Card!

With my new i7, my brain just cant keep up with the speed, on both FS 2004 and FSX!.... :o ...!

So an i7 Processor on FS 2004 should rocket you into the stratosphere!

Paul....Stratospherically speaking... ...!

Thanks for the tips and links...I remember using some of them on the last rig but they were long forgotten during the down time.

Seems like its the extended terrain that is the main issue. Will have to experiment with the tweaking this coming weekend when I have a little more time.

Paul...Runs amazingly smooth, its nice to make a stormy approach into an airport without a single stutter, my last rig was powerful, but still couldn't enjoy a good storm without a slide show. Now just have to get the pesky graphics to cooperate as the ground textures currently remind me of the FS98 days
