Around MadeiraX

Postby OldAirmail » Sun Apr 27, 2014 8:58 pm

Most of the posts here are of airplanes etc.

But this one will be about Madeira Island, a Portuguese possession out in the Atlantic.

If I could just win the lottery, this is where I'd live.

To get anyone who may be interested an idea of the place, I've found a couple of videos.

No good me flying there..For me Madeira will be FSX stock, "and for sure I'll see it differently"

Thanks, Jan.
The scenery is Madeira X from Aerosoft.com (and others, of course).

If you have a fast plane you can race up the canyons, over the hump, and race down the canyons on the other side.

I've also got an old De Havilland Tiger Moth just barely perched on a cliff top, ready to dive into a canyon.

Image

It's saved as "Canyon Ride". The object is to fly as fast and as close to the bottom of the canyon as you can until you get to the sea. Or crash. :D

This is one of those times where having TrackIR makes a BIG difference.

If you have to use buttons to look out for the next turn, you're dead.

Yeah. You're right. :shifty:

I'm still setting up Prepar3d in a number of ways.

I do have REX Essential Plus Overdrive, which does have nice water/wave textures. But your REX 4 is much much better.

I haven't used REX Essential Plus Overdrive for about three or four months now. I thought that they charged extra to run it in Prepar3d.

I just checked, but couldn't find that stipulation.

It's something that I'll have to consider. OpusFSX works far better in loading the real-time weather into the flight sim, but it only uses the water/sky/cloud textures that are already in the sim.

And I'm quite happy with the P3d cloud textures.

Still, something has to be done with the water.

"Apart from", thanks. :D

Thanks for the compliment.

There are a lot of planes that I like for a lot of different reasons.

But real "world air travel" once belonged to the flying boats.

If you have the time, read Ken Follett's Night Over Water. This book is also carried in many libraries as a download.

I've read it once, and listened to it twice while driving. Either way, it's great.

BTW - These are four switches that I've added to my yoke.
Image

The top right switch lowers and raises the wing tip floats on planes like the Grumman Goose. The light is lit when they're down.

The bottom right switch lowers and raises the rudders on planes like the Beaver. Again, when the rudders are in the down position, the light is lit. Don't want to forget that they're down, you know.

Here it is with the lights off.
