moveing folders from one plane to another

Postby bombardier » Tue Apr 08, 2014 6:34 pm

hello to all: I'm no good giving topic headlines. baw

I have this a380 jet malaysia airlines read the read me and it says made for fs9 but maybe compatible with fsx ok fine. this is what I want to do first I need speed my take off speed is 207 mph I need another 50 at most. second I a sound folder want to take from another plane. the yaw and the pitch can be a little faster in response to the yoke. can the the effects folder can be changed. noone explained to me what is in the effects folder but I can maybe guess Im thinking the plane movement, responding to controls and buttons in the cockpit
this is what I'm thinking I have an a380 quantas and azul. what if I took the effects folder from one of these planes and paste it into the malaysia folder. would that work or would that break the malaysia jet not fly at all.

some ideas would be helpful. thanks in advance bomberdier.

btw I flew the a380 azul jet and at take off speed was 230 mph not 207. and the respose was good so. so the response would be in the effects folder I would think. take off at 207 mph is close to stall speed.

Ummmm....I think you are missing some info in the FS world.

Firstly, and this is critical: BACK UP ANY FILE YOU EDIT FIRST!!!!
Simplest and fastest way is to click on aircraft.cfg, click COPY then immediately click PASTE. A file named aircraft-COPY.cfg will be created.
If you get the bird so scribledy-S$%^ it won't fly at all, simply delete the one you were working and rename your BACKED UP file back to aircraft.cfg.

what is in the effects folder

1) Effects are things like vapor train, internal and external light, engine smoke and so on. purely eye candy stuff. has NOTHING to do with the aircraft movement, speed etc. Normally the contents of the Effects folder are copied off into your FSX Effects folder, such as c:\FSX\Effects.
2)Does it say in the install file (readme.txt normally) to actually copy the sound folder over from another aircraft, or just alias to another aircraft? In other words, does your aircraft have a sound folder wilth sound.cfg(at least) in it? Sound.cfg ONLY, or no sounds folder? You can go to another aircraft, RCkick on the SOUND folder in that aircraft's folder (C:\fsx\A380\sound for example)and then click copy. Go back to you install aircfraft (C:\fsx\Maylaysa\ for exampple)rclick on an empty spot in the aircraft's folder and click PASTE. OR you can also go to the aircraft you want to copy FROM, highlite the sound folder, hit ctrl+c, go to you target (installing) aircraft, and hit ctrl+v.
3)Now we come to the fun parts....to make your bird go faster, you need to open the plane's aircraft.cfg (C:\FSX\Maylaysa\aircraft.cfg, for example) file with NOTEPAD, the Windows included text editor. Scroll down to a section labeled
[TurbineEngineData]
fuel_flow_gain = 0.002 //Gain on fuel flow
inlet_area = 19.6 //Square Feet, engine nacelle inlet area
rated_N2_rpm = 29920 //RPM, second stage compressor rated value
static_thrust = 23500 //Lbs, max rated static thrust at Sea Level
afterburner_available = 0 //Afterburner available?
reverser_available = 1 //Thrust reverser available?

increase the static_thrust= value some (say 24500 up from 23500). Keep nudging this value up a bit at a time until it's what you need. To increase the aircraft's top speed, DECREASE the inlet_area = 19.6 value 1.00 units at a time till it does what you want it to. Smaller units (0.5 for example) may be used to fine tune this. Verify this at normal cruising altitude, no pax and only minimal fuel.

To change the responsiveness of the aircraft, there are a few things you can do.
Look for a secion, still in the aircraft.cfg file, btw,
[flight_tuning]
cruise_lift_scalar = 1.0
parasite_drag_scalar = 1.0
induced_drag_scalar = 1.0
elevator_effectiveness = 1.0
aileron_effectiveness = 1.0
rudder_effectiveness = 1.0
pitch_stability = 1.0
roll_stability = 1.0
yaw_stability = 1.0
elevator_trim_effectiveness = 1.0
aileron_trim_effectiveness = 1.0
rudder_trim_effectiveness = 1.0
Increase elevator_effectiveness = 1.0 by 0.1 unit increments until the bird is answering the helm as you like it to :)
This can be done for all 3 axes. Also decrease the pitch_stability = 1.0 sections by 0.1 aty a time. These ineract with the other adjustment so only use small increments on each.
ALTERATIVELY you can cut-n-paste the mentioned section from the A380 you like into the aircraft you don't like. Or any individual LINE out of that section from one plane to another.
Having gone through all THAT, you can also find the section

[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE], and under that look for
;Moments of Inertia
empty_weight_pitch_MOI = 3172439
empty_weight_roll_MOI = 2262183
empty_weight_yaw_MOI = 3337024
empty_weight_coupled_MOI = 0
To make the bird MORE responsive, slightly LOWER any axis' value by say about 10 units until it's doing what you want.
Remember that this section interacts with previous 2 sections I mentioned so adjust all the different sections SLIGHTLY until you are happy.
Once again, you can also copy this section over from the aircraft you like, altho THIS is a bit trickier, as the W&B affects a lot of different things the aircraft does. I would personally NOT choose that method.

Finally, and this is critical: BACK UP ANY FILE YOU EDIT FIRST!!!!

I hope all this helps a little bit. Please feel free to ask questions, It's how humans learn things :)

thanks for that info. you explained it good and I also understand what you are saying.

bombardier

it has all the folders you can think of sound, effects,aircraft and so on

under read me txt it does not state move effects folder to root effects. the plane in question does have a sound folder it B747-400\sound nothing happens. so I picked one from one of my planes and paste it into the folder now I got sound.

hello phantomtweak:

I did what you say and it worked thanks: I increase the turbine engine data and also the plane response area is fixed also according to your example.

thanks for the info and your time to respond

hello to anyone: I'm asking for help for this jet an A380 american airlines it was in the fsx download pages and I downloaded it because I need this plane but after opening the read me I see its made for fs9 and fs2004. the plane is already in my planes list so I do not want to delete it. theres the problem: take off speed it slow you will see when its at a standstill ready to take off. and take off length is 9000 ft. second, response to my flight yoke is another problem. I have substituted an aircraft.cfg from another plane A380 to have it replace the bad one in the A380 american airlines no help there still acts the same. the sharp banking is not I turn the yoke into theat direction sharply and it takes the whole state of PA to make a turn any turn that matter. it seems to fly level but after a few seconds in the air it will dive bomb into the ground for no reason and no there is no stall warning light or anything llke that. any ideas?

I have tested this plane on the phili internationl airport it sits on a 12,000 so it has alot of room to take off I pull back on the yoke and nothing happens same in the air as you can read. I just use the sam yoke to fly my A380 qatar and no problems so it is something in the folders tht makeing the american airlines act so stupid.

hello to you phantomtweak:

I know you do not have fsx but there is a file titled A388 I would think it is A3800-800. in that file it looks like bunch of greek symbols and lettters. I might start there and replace that with another one from one of my A380 planes I have and any thing else that needs to be replace I will do that also. well gee, it does not fly any way so messing it up will not hurt it any way. I got the back up ready just in case.

talking about moveing folders from one plane to the next; I got a tough one for you.

I downloaded a A380 cyprus airways promx2. what ever promx2 is I have no idea but anyway it did not show up in the planes list so I looked in the folder and I saved all my folders from this plane before I deleted them. what I did was to take all the folders from one of my A380 plane and paste them into the cyprus plane and thought it would show up in the planes list no it did not show up. I do not know why it should have showed up after replaceing all the folders . the folders i did replace are model, panel, sound, AIR file

btw this plane was made for 2004 and 2002 flight sim if that helps any.

LOL!! you post 3 times faster than I can read! :lol: :cry:

For an aircraft to show up in the list the aircraft.cfg file fir it MUST have an entry like this:

[fltsim.0] <--------*
title=Boeing 737-400 <--------*
sim=Boeing737-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture= <----------*
kb_checklists=Boeing737-400_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-400_ref
atc_id=N737Z
atc_airline=American Pacific
atc_flight_number=1123
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type="737-400"
ui_variation="American Pacific Airways" <-------*
description="One should hardly be surprised that the world's most prolific manufacturer of commercial aircraft is also the producer of the world's most popular jetliner. The 737 became the best-selling commercial jetliner worldwide when orders for it hit 1,831 in June 1987 (surpassing Boeing's own 727 as the previous champ). However, it wasn't always that way\s in the first few years of production, there were so few orders that Boeing considered canceling the program. They didn't, and the airplane has more than proven itself in over three decades of service."

Notice the lines marked with <---------*

These must each be absolutely unique to that aircraft only! In other words, no other aircraft in the entire game can have lines just like those. A few characters are all it takes, such as a 1A at the end of each line, and so on.

Another thing that can trip up FSX users, I understand is not having the "SHOW ALL VARIATIONS" radio button clicked an some page or other, I think the aircraft's own page, but it may be another. It's at the bottom left of the page it's on, I thnk.
Again, I am hampered by not having FSX or I would be able to be more accurate. I am certain one of our more senior, intelligent, and FSX-experienced members will gladly and gleefully correct me :lol:

I believe this is the file you mean. http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=a380+cyprus&categoryId=

All you need to do to make it display on the FSX selection menu is to replace the sound with the sound folder of a default aircraft as I've showed you before.

BUT, don't waste your time on it. It's an FS2002 model that is not compatible with FSX.

hey hagar: the link you have is the one I downloaded

yeah I did that, before your response I would thought the to replace the sound file with an default sound file, and also the air file, and the model file that it would show up. I guess that would only work with the 2004 version.

but then again I took out all the 2002 files and replace them with an fsx compatible files so it should have flown. the only file I did not take out is the texure folder.

oh well, thanks again hagar,
I could sure use that A380 cyprus

bombardier

you know I think my gps is 100 miles off. I will keep an eye on that.

The textures only fit that model so there's no point in swapping it with a different one. The same goes for the AIR file.
