Lockheed 1011

Paul Craig has provided some very nice Eastern Airlines and TWA textures with Thomas Ruth's L-1011; perhaps Pan Am will be next. Nice work all around.

I was a pilot for EAL when they first got the airplane. I never flew it but rode jump seat a couple of times and liked the aircraft a lot, as did the crews. It always struck me as a better machine than the DC-10, especially since the third engine was designed into it, not tacked on as an afterthought when the prototype couldn't meet spec. And, as far as I know it never lost a baggage door in flight.

BUT, has anyone else noticed that those three launch customers are now defunct? Hmmmmm...

I was also an employee of Eastern as was my father. I never got to ride on Easterns L-1011 but I worked them everyday in Palm Beach Fl. It went to EWR. I did get to fly on both a TWA and Delta L-1011 though and really enjoyed the ride. Powerful yet really quiet.

Jetranger, great pix...thanks!

I had fun flying big jet iron for EAL but also disappointed to miss out on those wonderful round motor types. In fact, I have no jets in my FSX hangar as I try to capture some of those "good old days".

Jetranger, I was an employee of EASTERN but only for a very short time. 1984 to 1988. Didn't really know that many people. Just those I worked with in PBI & KCI and the ones my father knew when he was at EAL as a cargo agent. 1959-1988 all in STL. I got laid off in October 1988.
