USCG in action

Postby U4EA » Fri Mar 28, 2014 5:42 pm

While visiting a sick friend in Tampa recently, I took a day for myself to find some "photogenic" spots for my pride and joy.

Image

While doing this I noticed a Coast Guard helo near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. So I 'fractured' a speed limit or two to make it to the bridge's south rest/fishing area and caught them in action. The helo dropped a swimmer onto a jetty, who got into a FHP cruiser and they checked on a few fishermen nearby. Then the trooper took him back to the jetty, helo hovered and hoisted, and they were off to whatever came up next. Very cool to see what one normally sees on one of those Real-Stories-of-Whatever television shows. Here's just a few of the couple dozen shots I got. I'd like to take credit for the pic quality, but it was all the camera's automatic 'talent'.

Thanx for looking!

An excellent close-up of all that hi-tech machinery on the Rotor Head!

(Its always a mystery to me how the main gearbox bearing copes with all the load!).

The Rotor on my little (Sim) Gyrocopter/Gyroplane is very much simpler!... :D ....!

Wonderful shots. Well done!

It amazed me how the camera "stopped" the blades Paul. Equally amazing is the precision that goes into the rotorhead to make that all work the way it does.

And it's a 1995 Chevrolet Impala SS.....the "marriage" of a Corvette engine and transmission and a Caprice Police Interceptor. For a car that's old enough to vote, it regularly embarrasses much newer and smaller sporty cars.
