Good day fellow Simmers.

Seeing the Orion on patrol, took me back to 1971 when I was a member of the South African Frigate SAS President Steyn.

We escorted the 2nd Submarine "Daphne Class" back to South Africa that was built in Toulouse France. After we went through the Gibraltar straights, the submarine dived for an exercise with our ship. About an hour later one of the Orion aircraft's [USA] appeared on the horizon start circling the area where the submarine dived.

Every now and then the A/c dropped a Sonar buoy's. The ship lower the rubber duck and collect a few buoy's, that we brought back to South Africa

During this period the 2 outer engines was stopped and feathered.

After about 3 hrs the aircraft left us, just before they went off task the outer engines was started.

All great pics!
I gotta say, on that aircraft, I do love the "old school" paint scheme.
