We are talking about a Boeing fly by wire and not Airbus. Not that it would be possible with either, however, Airbus, the computers have the last say, Boeing the pilots have the last say. With the 777 fly by wire, the pilots can always override the flight computers.

Interesting quote from Immarsat...

...GPS tracking from them would have cost Malaysia Airlines less than $1/hr.

Even ACARS only costs $6.00/Flight for the aviation version of On-Star. Not sure if that would open the doors or kill the engines though.

Like I said, just a thought. Glad to know the Pilot still has the final say over the computer. Thanks. And no, I didn't think it was really possible just a thought.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions.

China has demanded that the Malaysian authorities make available the evidence on which they based their announcement about the jet's fate.

And some relatives of Chinese passengers expressed scepticism about their conclusion, as the plane has not been found yet.

Apparently, Immarsat have calculated that from the last "ping" which was received once an hour, that the 'plane must have run out of fuel before the next ping was due. So therefore, they conclude that travelling at 400 mph, must be less than that from the last ping position on the arc. Hmm, Of course, not knowing the actual height, the descent angle or indeed the actual arc, they used vast computing resources to arrive at the conclusion they did. Methinks they just assumed the satellite images of supposed wreckage was from MH370 and worked backwards. I could have done that without a computer. I don't blame the Chinese for demanding an explanation. :geek:

I keep hearing that ACARS is the aviation version of On-Star and it could not be further from the truth, ok, they both use a satellite signal, but that is as close as it gets. ACARS is a basic text message service as in early mobile phones. No fancy multi media messages, pictures, hotel reservations or informing the authorities of an accident. It can send other information about aircraft systems but nothing of huge detail, engine vibration, or magnetic chip detector has registered something. Remember, for the software, aviation is still using 1.4mb floppy disks to load ACARS, FMC, Nav date updates and EEC software uploads............Which is also causing me problems, try getting hold of 1.4mb floppies now, they are as precious as gold dust.......and unless Boeing can produce 6000+ data up loaders of another format then the world wide 737 fleet is going to have a problem, as will the A320 family just to name two aircraft types......

I didn't think ON-star could do that either. But they know when your airbags have gone off. They have gotten more fancy with the latest version, but the early versions didn't do much more except open the doors if you wanted and dialled 911 for you. I guess it's cleverer than the Acars, but I understood ACARS could monitor at least. Geeze, I have a stash of 144 floppies, how can I get them to ya? :geek:

Where have all the Tigers gone? Long time passing. I was up in the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia in 1970 when they shot this beautiful Tiger. They had it on display, measured 18Ft from nose to tip of tail. The villagers who shot it reckoned it actually was a cross border Tiger regularly crossing the Thai border, roamed hundreds of miles (this was before GPS)How they reckoned it was the same Tiger defeats imagination. At the time I preferred the stuff in a can.
